Theodorikakos met with Greeks in Istanbul: “They remind us of what we must never forget”

by

The Minister of Civil Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, met with members of the Greek community during his visit to Istanbul. In a post on social media, the minister states: “Before leaving Istanbul, I had the pleasure of meeting Greeks of the city, in the courtyard of the Temple of the Great Brigadiers, where every year the Community of the Great Stream – this historic village of the Bosphorus – organizes the group preparation of Easter customs. I had a moral obligation to be by their side!

I was guided to the church, I spoke with the representatives of the Roman Communities of Constantinople and I expressed to them the continuous and practical interest of the Greek state. They want it, they need this interest and they expressed it brazenly together with their joy for the first visit of a Greek Minister of Civil Protection after many years.

The expatriates of the city, under difficult -often- conditions and with memories that keep their passion alive, continue with admirable zeal to observe the manners and customs of the Greek Orthodox tradition! They insist on living in their ancestral homes, reminding us of things we must never forget. They are moving! I wish them health and strength. Happy Resurrection, Happy Easter! “
