RES “tool” in the hands of Municipalities and Regions for cheaper energy – The new bill

Specifically, Article 100 of the bill provides that first and second degree local authorities will be able to install RES units to support vulnerable consumers and address the energy poverty of citizens of the municipality or region living below the poverty line.

Also, the installation of RES stations is allowed to cover them energy needs not only public benefit companies, kindergartens, schools, health centers and hospitals (already provided) but also:

municipal and public sports centersinstallations and street lighting networks, water supply and sewerage installations as well as any other building, infrastructure or installation that either belongs to or serves the needs of the Local Government.

According to RIS, this provision seeks to meet as much as possible the energy needs of local authorities and their infrastructure with green energy through the installation of a RES station and virtual energy offset. In addition, they aim to protect and support vulnerable households from the energy crisis and increase electricity prices.

The proposed bill aims to reduce the average licensing time for new RES projects to 14 months from the current 5 years, to increase the capacity of the electricity network to include more RES units and to develop electricity storage projects with installed capacity. at least 3.5 GW by 2030. The government’s goal, as stressed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, is to announce the first tenders for battery-powered storage units in the fall.
