From guitars to mothers-in-law and children… What Athenians forget in the subway

by

Every year, 4,000-5,000 items are forgotten by subway passengers in Greece, either on the train or at the docks.

According to the report by George Tselikas, the objects that are found higher on the list with what the Athenians forget is their keys and their glasses.

In winter the ones they forget the most are gloves, scarves and umbrellas, while during the Easter period rosaries, icons and the Bible.

In summer, the Athenians forget about sea masks and camping tents.

Other items that have ended up in the warehouse of the lost in the metro are guitars and bicycles, while even wigs, toilet lid and statues have been found.

Remarkable was an incident with a man who accompanied his mother-in-law with dementia to the doctor and forgot her στο in the tram! She then called the missing persons office to report it.

Others forgot their own child who was in a stroller in the elevator of Syntagma station. The mother got a phone call from Omonia, where she realized that she had forgotten the child!

Another incident was a toothpick in the back of a seat at the station. The old man who looked for her said that he had quit smoking and instead of a rosary he was playing with the gum and when the train came he forgot her there in his hurry.

Another lady lost her glass eye.

According to the head of the lost property office, 80% of the items are returned to the owners. 30-40 is sought after by the owners. The rest remain in storage for a year and then either sold or donated to an institution or rejected.
