by

A new bone of a possible victim of the collapse of the dam of the mining company Vale in Brumadinho, in Greater Belo Horizonte, was located this Monday (2) by the Fire Department of Minas Gerais.

The corporation says it is not possible to confirm, so far, whether the bones are from one of the victims not yet identified. The material was sent for analysis by the Civil Police.

However, according to the note released by the firefighters, “considering the relevance and characteristics of the material, there are good possibilities of eventual new identification”.

Vale’s dam in Brumadinho collapsed on January 25, 2019, killing 270 people. Of the total, six are still missing.

The last identification of the body of the victim of the tragedy in Brumadinho was announced by the Civil Police on December 29 of last year. The body was that of a 49-year-old woman who worked as an operations analyst at Vale.

The location took place in an area called “Hope 1” after the discovery of a body segment. After the finding, the firefighters explain that a specialized search was carried out and, then, the new bone was found, which has approximately 40 segments.

“We will continue the work in the coming days, looking for new meetings”, said, in video, Lieutenant Sandro Júnior, from the State Fire Department.

Three years and three months after the tragedy, firefighters work in the region affected by the mining company’s mud in the so-called hybrid scheme, in which members of the corporation work together with machinery used for sieving.

The Civil Police reported that work on the bones located this Monday by firefighters in Brumadinho is in progress, but did not say when they should be completed.
