Korkoneas trial postponed for Alexandros Grigoropoulos murder case

by

The indefinite adjournment of the trial of the case of the special guard Epameinonda Korkonea for the murder of a 15-year-old Alexandrou Grigoropoulos decided the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal of Lamia, as it was found that had not been summoned nor the mothernor the sister of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, nor the proxiesbut also the attorneys.

At the beginning of the hearing, the attendees Nikos Konstantopoulos and Zoe Konstantopoulou as the family’s lawyers raised the matter in court noting that they were accidentally informed of the commencement of the hearing and asked the court to restore legality.

“We are here to protest, because we were excluded illegally”, stressed, among others, Nikos Konstantopoulos and called on the president to observe the procedural order.

As it is known, the trial of the Korkoneas case is resumed in the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal of Lamia after the decision of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court, which accepted the reversal of a previous decision of the Mixed Jury Court of Lamia which recognized mitigating which led to his release.

In a statement, Nikos and Zoe Konstantinopoulou claim that “the omission of a summons is not due to inadvertence or error but to an order given by the Chief Prosecutor of the Court of Appeals, Mr. Bandoudakis, not to summon the prosecution support side, ie Alexander’s mother and sister. ».

The same statement notes that “this is an unprecedented, extreme anti-procedural action, which violates the principles of the rule of law, fair trial, equality of arms, transparency and publicity in the administration of justice, blatantly violates this very principle of impartiality.” and undermines the fundamental principle of the essential search for truth. It is, moreover, an action aimed at the abolition of Alexander’s mother and sister by parties in the trial for the cold-blooded murder of the child and at the saving of extra-procedural advantages for the convict. We wonder what would have happened if we had not accidentally been informed of today’s trial and in what new legal battle we would have to engage in order to restore legitimacy. We wonder what information would be given to the jurors who would be drawn as members of the composition, for the absence of us and Alexander’s family. We did not show up because we are not interested? We did not show up because we are not entitled? What condition would be formed in the courtroom, with the presence only of the accused and without the presence of witnesses but also of the relatives, mother and sister of the murdered Alexander? “

It is noted, finally, that before the court were analyzed the specific legal issues that led the judges to postpone the trial of the case, which will be determined next year, along with the necessary summonses to all parties.
