Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 18, the ballots for the student elections will be raised again, as decided by the inter-parliamentary student council, after three years of postponements due to the pandemic, for the election of the members of the Boards of Directors of the Student Associations. The last time elections were held at universities was on April 11, 2019.
Last year, the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, had proposed the abolition of student groups and the holding of elections with a single ballot, something that did not go ahead. After all, dozens of student associations had opposed the proposal. It remains an enigma whether the elections at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AOP) will be completed normally, as the procedures have been episodic for years.
With the central slogan “We return”, DAP NDFK aspires to maintain its lead in the elections and states in its announcement that the goal is “a better, upgraded and truly progressive University, which will invest in freedom, pluralism, security and tolerance”.
“A message of condemnation of the government’s policy and strengthening of the struggle for the rights of students, which are in the crosshairs of all governments” asks the students to send the “Student Cooperation Movement” (PKS), which has as its project “Alone and everyone us”.
“To raise a wall in the commercialization of Education that some people want”, emphasizes the announcement of PASP, which has as motto “Together, with creative initiatives in knowledge, in tomorrow”.
“Against the University of Business, the class barriers, the repression” declares the United Independent Left Movement (E.A.A.K.) with the project “Counterattack now!”.
“Either we or they” is the slogan of the BLOCO Radical Left, which points out in its announcement “to form a front of democracy in view of the student elections that will stand as a bulwark against the neoliberal policies that undermine our lives.”
It is reminded that There will be no classes on May 18 and 19 at the universities and students vote with their pass and ID.
