The ability to the authenticity of the signature is digitally certified in English have from today the citizens. This is a service that is available through docs.gov.grfor “digital document certification” and “digital certificate of a private contract», Facilitating those citizens who need to send in the foreign document with their signature certified. The platform was implemented by the National Network of Technology and Research Infrastructures (EDYTE SA – GRNET), a supervised body of the Ministry of Digital Government.

THE procedure version of the document is very simple. Initially, in order to be identified, the citizen follows the same steps as those required to complete an Authorization or Responsible Declaration, ie it is authenticated:

  • or via Taxisnet codes, if the citizen has a verified mobile phone number,
  • or with the codes web banking (National Bank of Greece, Piraeus Bank, Alpha Bank, Eurobank, Attica Bank, Pancretan Bank, Epirus Bank, Cooperative Bank of Karditsa, Bank of Central Macedonia, Bank of Chania or Deposits and Loans Fund).

Then the citizen posts in .pdf format the document in which he wants to certify his signature. At this point he is asked to state whether he wants the certificate in Greek or in English, by selecting the corresponding field. The name and patronymic in Latin characters are drawn automatically, as indicated on the police ID. For cases of alignment with other travel documents, the citizen is given the opportunity to modify this information (eg women appearing as PAPADOPOULOU can modify it to PAPADOPOULOS). However, in order to ensure that this feature will not be misused, the signature certificate in English includes the details as recorded in the identification document.

The process is just completed fill in the disposable code (OTP – One Time Password), which is sent to the mobile phone number stated by the citizen. Immediately after, the document is registered in the citizen’s box at my.gov.gr and is available for storage, printing or sending to a public body.

At the bottom of each page the unique code and QR code of the document are indicated, so that it can be easily checked for validity. In fact, for the verification of English-language certificates, docs.gov.gr/validate displays the results in both languages, enhancing the security of transactions and the reliability of documents.

It is reminded that docs.gov.gr was put into operation in November 2021, fully completing the digitization of services related to the original signature for all private documents written by citizens and businesses. Until today through docs.gov.gr more than 325,000 certificates of genuine signature have been made.
