The Holy Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of Pontian Hellenism was chosen by the Archbishop of America Elpidoforos to announce the third pilgrimage of our compatriots in the USA, in Pontus and in Asia Minor, from the 8th to the 19th of August.
The third pilgrimage is part of a series of pilgrimages organized by the Archdiocese of America in celebration of the 100th anniversary of its founding. Those expatriates who take part will travel to holy places and will have the unique opportunity to attend the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Soumela, on the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, presiding over the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The Holy Monastery, founded in 386 AD. high in the mountains of Pontus and near the Byzantine imperial city of Trabzon, remains for 16 centuries the symbol of Pontic Hellenism.
In fact, today, Archbishop Elpidoforos, after the Divine Liturgy in the chapel of the Theological School of the Holy Cross, in Boston, performed a trisagion in memory of the victims of the Genocide of Pontian Hellenism.
