Delusion on Turkish television: “Sovereignty has not been established in 152 islands” – “Maybe we will get some”

by

What was heard on a CNN Turk show during is incredibly similar discussion on Greek-Turkish.

THE journalist Zafer Sahin went so far as to say that in the Aegean there are 152 islands that their sovereignty has not been determined and that maybe in the future Turkey could understand them.

He did not believe his ears President of the “Homeland” party Muarem Ince. Answer that Turkey has no ambitions on the islands no one and asked the journalist if what he was saying was “let’s go get them”. He replied cynically: “maybe we will take them, who knows?”.

The controversy between the two men continued over the Treaty of Lausanne, with the journalist backing up on Erdogan’s demands for updates and the politician responding that they had been granted since the time of the sultans.

It is worth noting that Hurriyet director Ahmet Hakan, who moderated the discussion, did not make a single intervention about what was unacceptably heard.

The dialogue in detail:

Zafer Sahin (journalist): The reason that Mitsotakis is rushing to the USA is because he is afraid of the update of the Lausanne Treaty. President Erdogan’s statement to update it has many deep implications.

Muarem Ince (President of the Homeland Party): What will you update? Such things do not happen

Zafer Sahin (journalist): But we went and gave the islands that are in front of our noses

Muarem Ince (President of the Homeland Party): But what do you say we go and get them?

Zafer Sahin (journalist): Maybe we’ll get them, who knows?

Muarem Ince (President of the Homeland Party): We did not give these to Lausanne. These the Sultan had already granted. Abdul Hamid had given Cyprus, the islands had been ceded again since the time of the Sultans. Do not do this! There were the Italians, and others. They were not lost with Lausanne.

Muarem Ince (President of the Homeland Party): That is, what will you do to understand the islands?

Zafer Sahin (journalist): We will see what happens in the future. I wish!

Muarem Ince (President of the Homeland Party): What are you saying; If possible! Do you have dreams? We have no aspirations on anyone’s islands! 100 to 150 years before the treaties were signed.

Zafer Sahin (journalist): There are 152 islands whose sovereignty has not been determined, according to international law.
