THE election of Rania Svigkou as secretary was not useless for SYRIZA. THE Alexis Tsipras surprised the party and with a maneuver pointed to the “Presidents” and “Umbrella»That from now on they must move forward together, without exclusions and groupings. Ms. Svigkou is one of its executives left minority, however the party “patriotism»Her and her sober attitude were the elements that the president of SYRIZA singled out. He was a close associate and spokesman for many years at critical times.
Alexis Tsipras’s messages were twofold with this move: trends should only function as streams of ideas and intrigues and rivalries should be a thing of the past. At the same time, he clarified to the minority that everyone is co-responsible for the course of the party.
THE embarrassment was obvious when Alexis Tsipras announced his decision to the body. The presidents were upset, because Alexis Tsipras chose a person from the “53+” and the minority because he was not informed. The “presidents” felt that their clear dominance at the conference was “cut off” by this move. Rania Svigkou and George Vassiliadis (deputy secretary) were finally elected with a percentage of 76.5%, showing the dominance of Alexis Tsipras. At the ballot box for the new secretary were found 70 white ballots mainly from the “Umbrella” trend. THE Pavlos Polakis publicly criticized the choice of Alexis Tsipras, as, as he said, in the past Rania Svigkou was against enlargement. The president, giving a strict answer, said that “you are not the authentic exponent of the 172,000 members“, but “each and every one of us represents them».
On the part of the minority o Theodoros Dritsas stated that when someone is in the minority he can not take responsibility for the implementation of the majority plan. Alexis Tsipras replied that this is not a strategy of unity and added that “until yesterday some said that the majority wants to oust the minority and now that the president is submitting a proposal for composition and unity, from the same people instead of seeing happy faces I see sad». Rania Svigkou also responded to the staff, saying that she is saddened by this perception and that the democratically taken collective decisions must be implemented by everyone and from any position. Either the ordinary member or the secretary.
Mr. Tzanakopoulos had told Alexis Tsipras for some time that he did not want to renew his term. In the last few days, the president’s contacts with many executives have been continuous, while for a long time he had been thinking of the new secretary remaining exclusively in the party and not being a candidate for MP.
The Political Secretariat
Alexis Tsipras suggested 38 persons for the body of the Political Secretariatin which the president and the two secretaries (a total of 41 members) additionally participate ex officio. He tried to keep his balance putting eight members of the Umbrella. Nikos Filis was not in these persons. Thodoris Dritsas, in response, submitted four candidacies from the “Umbrella” side. Nikos Filis, Michalis Sampatakakis, Anneta Kavvadia and Panos Lambrou. Finally, after the vote on the proposal of Alexis Tsipras, Stefanos Tzoumakas, Sofia Pandi and Petros Kalkandis came out and their place was taken by Nikos Filis, Anneta Kavvadia and Panos Lambrou. In total, the “Umbrella” has 10 members in the new body.
Olga Gerovasili came out first with 122 votes, Thanasis Theocharopoulos second with 111 and Mariliza Xenogiannakopoulou third with 100.
