“There will always be the indomitable will and determination, which can come from a single soul, the Greek. “And that does not change!”, Stressed the Deputy Minister of National Defense

“Thirty years after the unjust loss of the hero officer, everyday life in the Greek seas, in the Greek skies has not changed. But we will always be here! There will always be the impenetrable wall, built by our Armed Forces, with the universal support of the Greek people. There will always be the indomitable will and determination, which can come from a single soul, the Greek. And that does not change! “

This was assured by the Deputy Minister of National Defense Nikos Hardalias by Agios Efstratios where he attended as a representative of the Greek government in the annual events of honor and remembrance for the fallen during the performance of the duty of Hero Lieutenant (I) Nikolaos Sialmas that took place at the site of his monument, on the island of Akriti.

The events were co-organized by the General Staff of Aviation and the homonymous municipality. Nikolaos Sialmas was born in 1965 in Thermo, Etoloakarnania. He entered the Icarus School in September 1984 and graduated in June 1988 with the rank of second lieutenant.

A 342nd All-Weather F-1CG All-Weather of the 114th Fighter Wing (Tanagra) crashed in the sea area south of Agios Efstratios on 18 June 1992 while carrying out an interception mission in the southern part of Agios Efstratios.
