“We are not carried away by easy rhetorical outbursts made to address internal problems,” the Prime Minister stressed on the Turkish provocation

It does not mean a solution to the Cyprus problem without abolishing the anachronistic system of guarantees, and without the complete withdrawal of the illegal Turkish occupation troops from Cyprus, the Prime Minister pointed out Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his visit to Megalonisos.

During his visit to Cyprus, the Prime Minister met with representatives of the Committee of Occupied Municipalities and the Committee of Occupied Communities of Cyprus.

Government sources say it was reaffirmed during the meeting Greece’s unwavering commitment to the goal of a mutually acceptable solution to the Cyprus problemon the basis of the relevant Security Council Resolutions.

He assured, no, that Greece always remains on the side of the occupied municipalitiesin their just struggle for the return of all refugees without exception to their ancestral homes, within a comprehensive and agreed solution that respects the European acquis.

The Prime Minister underlined that the indisputably and justifiably large material and emotional weight of Varosia is also recognized by the relevant decisions of the Security Council.

Finally, Mr. Mitsotakis thanked the Committee of Occupied Municipalities of Cyprus for its kind and highly symbolic donation to repair the damage caused by last year’s catastrophic fires in Greece.

The meeting was attended by the Member of Parliament for ND, Tassos Hadjivassiliou, the Ambassador of Greece to the Republic of Cyprus, Ioannis Papameletiou and the director of the Diplomatic Office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Anna Maria Boura.

“Elections will be held at the end of four years – The need for an independent Greece is served by a strong ND government”

“I am happy because ND here in Cyprus is strong, united and ready to give battle. “Not only ND, but Greece should be autonomous”, stressed Kyriakos Mitsotakis speaking to executives of NODE SW Cyprus.

“You know in difficult times it’s important to have a strong government, which guarantees continuity and stability“, The prime minister continued, stating that during these three years the government was called to manage multiple crises.

“No government has had to deal with so many successive crises,” he said, referring to the events in Evros in March 2020, “tensions with our unpredictable neighbor”, the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the effects of rising prices.

“At the same time, we never give up the reform effort to change Greece and get the Greece we deserve. It is a commitment that we strive to put into practice every day. “Today Greece has nothing to do with the Greece we received”, he added and referred to the decision of the Eurogroup yesterday to consent to the exit of Greece from the enhanced supervision regime in August.

“This closes an extremely painful chapter in the supervision of European institutions. A chapter that opened in 2010 with bankruptcy and was extended in 2015 when we reached a step out of the exit from the eurozone and we were imposed a memorandum. We struggled a lot to get here “, underlined Mr. Mitsotakis, who said, among other things, that bold changes were made, taxes were reduced, Greece became competitive again for investments and our economy responds extremely positively. This year, he continued, it is still going very well while for tourism he said that it has the potential to make a record in 2022.

He also stressed that large foreign companies trust Greece as an investment destination, we utilize funds from the recovery fund and the so-called NSRF was approved first by all European countries.

“All this composes the image of a country that is changing, has dynamics, stands on the international stage as a co-shaper of European developments. “Greece is strong and geopolitically, not only because we invest in the armed forces, but because it has built appropriate alliances,” he added.

The Prime Minister recalled the agreements with France and the United States, said that we have built bridges with the Arab world, that we have strengthened our relations with Israel and that Greece and Cyprus are leading.

“We have set a framework for resolving our dispute with Turkey. Only if one respects international law can these issues be resolved. We are not carried away by easy rhetorical outbursts “which are done to address internal problems”, he stressed, while for the Cyprus issue he reiterated that its solution can be done within the framework of the single bi-zonal bi-communal federation.

In addition, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that it is extremely important as we enter the last years of government term, the party mechanism to be prepared, while he said that the elections will be held at the end of four years.

The Prime Minister also referred to the law on expatriates which allows them to vote from their place of residence.

“The law is not the best possible but others are responsible for it,” he said, calling on them to vote as many times as necessary.

“It is very likely that it will be needed twice because the first elections will be held with an electoral system that only causes problems for the country. The last thing the country needs is allied governments that fuel instability. The need for an independent Greece is served by a strong ND government. The SW must be autonomous. This does not mean that it is not open to society and to new executives who will staff the government mechanism. An autonomous SW does not necessarily mean a government of the SW alone. The basic criterion is meritocracy. The goal is to change the track, to become a prosperous European country. With growth, jobs, social cohesion. “Development with social justice”, underlined the prime minister who declared his support for Averof Neophytou.
