“We are at the borders of Europe at a time when multiple geopolitical reasons of strategy and security, reasons of the energy crisis are very likely to create a new wave of fleeing to Europe”, said Mr. Mitarakis
A two-day workshop in the building of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, organized by the Reception and Identification Service, Tuesday July 5 and Wednesday July 6, with the participation of all Commanders of Closed Controlled Structures, Reception and Identification Centers and Hospitality Structures, as well as all heads of Directorates and Departments of the Service, in the presence of the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarakis.
The workshop is the first live group meeting with the presence of all the Governors after fully assuming the supervision of all the Authority Structures of the Ministry of Health.
At the start of the workshop, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Mr. Mitarakis, addressed a greeting, noting that:The reality is that we took a responsibility in 2020 by creating what the opposition accused us of creating many transferable positions, such as the commanders in the reception and identification service. This was finally a big issue that paid off, because a very important human resource came to the ministry, people with university knowledge, people who were able to manage the structures and be a bridge with the local communities which you realize in 2020 was even more critical than the the very operation of the structures and thus be able to respond from an environment of 92,000 residents in our country».
At another point in his speech, Mr. Mitarakis set the future goals, noting that “in the long term the aim is for the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum to be able to create its own next generation of executives. In other words, the new employees who will be hired in 2022-2023 by the Ministry of Health will be the administrators of the following years».
Addressing the workshop participants, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum pointed out:Our responsibility as Ministry of Health is to treat those who arrive in our country with dignity and decency on the one hand and to be able to limit the impact of any future crises on local communities. This is our bet. The structures can operate in an orderly and safe manner, so that they can meet the needs of the beneficiaries and the safety needs of our staff and the living conditions of the local communities. And I think the bet we experienced in Samos, Kos and Leros came to confirm that the new model can in practice resolve these issues».
“We are at the borders of Europe at a time when multiple geopolitical reasons of strategy and security, reasons of the energy crisis are very likely to create a new wave of flight to Europe“, he characteristically concluded.
After the Minister, the General Secretary of Immigration Policy, Mr. Patroklos Georgiadis, the General Secretary of Reception of Asylum Applicants, Mr. Manos Logothetis, the Service Secretary, Ms. Fotini Koulouri, the Special Secretary for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors, Mr. Iraklis Moskof, addressed a greeting. as well as the Deputy Director-General, in charge of the Working Group for the management of Migration, in the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs, Mrs. Beate Gminder.
