Michalis Katrinis pointed out that the country has already entered, under the government’s responsibility, a prolonged pre-election period, stressing that “the sooner the elections are held, the better”.
“The conservative faction does not believe in social policy, does not believe in the development of the welfare state. The government’s policy has as its main objective the support of the big and powerful, it leads to the widening of inequalities and takes away rights from workers, while it systematically degrades the social state and its infrastructures” said the head of the Parliamentary Group of PASOK, Michalis Katrinis. during the debate before the agenda in Parliament for social policy.
“The long distance that separates the conservative faction from social policy has been known for decades. But for all of us, in PASOK, social policy is a structural element of our politics and ideology. For us in PASOK, the welfare state is a key parameter of social cohesion and economic development, with a horizontal dimension in all our policies,” emphasized Mr. Katrinis.
He pointed out that the country has already entered, under the government’s responsibility, a prolonged pre-election period, stressing that “the sooner the elections are held, the better. Because the country needs a new change, a new beginning with PASOK as the protagonist”.
He referred to the program proposals of PASOK which include:
-Reduction of taxes on fuel and basic food items.
– Imposing a ceiling on the retail price of energy.
– Immediate increase of the minimum wage to 751 euros.
-Incentives for new hires in private companies, by linking recruitment and tax exemptions.
– Utilization of the resources of the Recovery Fund with the aim of creating many and well-paid jobs.
-Granting a new EKAS to relieve the 350,000 low pensioners and exempting all pensioners from the Solidarity Contribution.
-The construction with resources of the Recovery Fund, a total of 35,000 new houses, which will be available to new couples and the economically weaker, against a low rent.
Mr. Katrinis also referred to a new development model for the country with a focus on strengthening domestic production, small and medium enterprises, modern agricultural production, the defense industry, energy networks. The goal must be the creation of many well-paid jobs, the reduction of social inequalities, but also of inequalities in the education and training system, so that there are equal opportunities for all.
“These goals for PASOK are the goals of the government program, they are the goals of tomorrow’s content that the country’s governance should have. And these goals in themselves set the dividing line between progress and maintenance, between the ideas of modern social democracy and populism” emphasized Michalis Katrinis
