Dendias: He presented the Greek positions to the Foreign Affairs Committee

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias had a meeting earlier today with the President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the American House of Representatives (House of Representatives) Gregory Meeks, as well as members of said House. American Ambassador George Tsunis was also present.

He referred to Greek support to Ukrainewhich is a position of principle, as well as in support of Sweden and Finland joining NATO, as, as he underlined, the countries in question are democracies with deep roots, with respect for Law and human rights.

He then proceeded to a thorough briefing on Turkey’s provocative and delinquent behavior, the questioning of Greek sovereignty and sovereign rights, as well as the threat of war.

In this context, he also presented relevant maps, which illustrate them illegal Turkish unilateral complaints.

He emphasized that our positions are based on respect for International Law and especially the International Law of the Sea and that Greece is willing to resolve the unique dispute with Turkey, the delimitation of the continental shelf and the EEZ in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, on the basis of always of the International Law of the Sea.

He referred to the bilateral agreements with Italy and Egypt, as well as the political agreement to refer the issue to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

It is noted that the American side underlined that it treats Greece as a real friend and partner and showed understanding for our positions.
