Arson at REAL: Mitsotakis phone call to Nikos Hatzinikolaou

The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis he contacted his supervisor by phone Real Groupjournalist Nikos Hatzinikolaou, after the arson attack that took place at dawn in the group’s building in Marousi.

Mr. Mitsotakis expressed his support and assured him that the State will make every effort to bring the perpetrators to justice. “Every attempt to intimidate journalistic voices falls on deaf ears. Any targeting of journalists is absolutely condemnable,” the Prime Minister stressed.

He also spoke with Mr. Hadjinikolau SYRIZA president, Alexis Tsipras. With his post on social media, Mr. Tsipras emphasizes that the arson attack on REAL is yet another attack on the freedom of the press and information. “The State must immediately bring the perpetrators to justice,” emphasizes the official opposition leader.

The attack was condemned by the political world.

In the REAL building, remnants of an improvised device were found, namely three gas canisters with tape, by the investigative department of the Fire Service. The fire which caused significant damage.

The mechanism was found in an external stairwell of the building between the ground floor and the first floor. It is noted that the ground floor of the building is empty, on the first and second floor are the offices of Real FM & Real News, while on the third floor are the offices of a shipping company.

Most of the damage has been done to the third floor, but there is enough damage to the other two as well. The worker who was freed from the building was on the first floor where the offices of the radio station are. At this time, an echelon of the Explosive Devices Disposal Department (EDD) of ELAS is expected, which will investigate the area to determine if there are other devices, apart from the one that has already been identified.

The preliminary investigation of the case will probably be undertaken by the State Security.
