The Minister of Tourism referred to the Government’s targeted interventions to strengthen domestic tourism and the average Greek family. Vassilis Kikiliasin an interview he gave to the newspaper “I Vradini tis Kyriaki”.
Mr. Kikilias spoke about the three programs – for a total of 70 million euros – that are “running” this time: “Social Tourism”, the special “pass” for northern Evia and Samos and the new upgraded program “Tourism for All” of the Ministry of Tourism, which was put into operation yesterday, with the platform for submitting applications remaining open at vouchers.gov.gr, until Thursday, July 21.
“All three of these programs have almost zero paperwork and contribute to our goal of extending the tourist season by offering better prices, primarily for Greek travelers. We care that more than 500,000 beneficiaries – especially the most vulnerable – can take a breather from the difficulties and enjoy the beauties of Greece“, underlined the Minister of Tourism.
In his interview, Mr. Kikilias also referred to the strong indications that argue in favor of an excellent tourist season this year, noting that in many popular destinations in the country – but also in less prominent ones that have now entered the tourist map dynamically – the occupancy rates, at the moment, they reach 90%, while in regions such as the Dodecanese, the Cyclades and Crete, the performances already exceed the corresponding figures of 2019.
“Certainly, we cannot ignore the figures from the arrivals at our airports, the figures from the receipts, as well as the money spent by the average traveler visiting our country. All this, of course, did not happen by chance, but proves in practice the result of collective and hard work and carefully considered planning that preceded last fall and winter“, emphasized Mr. Kikilias.
The Minister of Tourism also spoke about this year’s cruise recovery – with the planned arrivals of cruise ships appearing increased by 25%, compared to 2019 – and outlined the planning for the immediate future. “We continue to develop coordinated synergies to highlight pilgrimage tourism, combined with cruising, in parts of our country that are a stronghold of spirituality for travelers from all over the world, but also cultural tourism, in order to have cruise ship arrivals all twelve months of year. And that’s because cruise records breathe life into the economy, bring revenue to local markets, create new jobs and support the small and medium-sized Greek business, as well as the average Greek family.“, he pointed out.
