Debate-KINAL: What were the positions of the candidates for the leadership

by

Dealing with crises will require partnerships on a program basis and at multiple levels anyway, but the responsibility lies with one, the leader, and must have three characteristics: To be an example, to keep the people united and to have the The same behavior towards everyone, said the candidate for the presidency of KINAL, Pavlos Geroulanos, responding to the first section (crisis management) of tonight’s telematch of five candidates for the presidency of the party.

For his part, Haris Kastanidis stressed the need to restore the principles of solidarity and regulate the markets. He distinguished between “cooperation” and “national reconciliation”, noting that the latter is a national need.

For his part, Pavlos Christidis reminded that the crisis of 2007-2008 “which had the signature of ND” was managed by the PASOK government, receiving attacks from ND and SYRIZA. He noted the difficulty of getting the country out of the measures and advocated a different strategy to tackle the crisis in terms of unity with the people ahead. He also blamed the government for not shielding the NSS and for the equally flawed shielding of public transport and schools against the pandemic.

In the second section of the telematch (foreign policy), P. Geroulanos said that “we must not play by the rules set by Turkey. We need a clear National Line: Greece to be a stabilizing factor in the region, to base its diplomacy on international law and to be a bridge with the neighboring peoples, not just a border of the EU “. He added that “the clearer the messages we send to Turkey, the more it will be forced to respect Greek positions. To build an army, economy, diplomacy in this direction “.

P. Geroulanos also stated that there has been no serious discussion in the EU regarding Hungary and Poland, which have “rubbish their rights”.

For his part, Ch. Kastanidis said that in case of an appeal to The Hague, the only thing that the Greek side can discuss is the EEZ and the continental shelf. He stressed the need to restore the Unified Defense Doctrine but also the re-transformation – based on Helsinki – of Greek-Turkish differences into Euro-Turkish.

P. Christidis referred to the revisionist aims of Turkey and noted that in the event of recourse to The Hague, it should concern only the EEZ and the continental shelf. He spoke in favor of strong defense and the formation of a unified national strategy, while stressing that the EU could not have two measures and two weights. Referring to the Prespa Agreement, he recalled that Fofi Gennimata said “no without extremes” and raised the issue of strengthening the country’s strategy and resolving the demographic issue.

In the third section (operation of the institutions and the political system), Ch. Kastanidis reminded that he himself from responsible government positions clashed for transparency as he did not want and does not want “osmosis of political and business interests”. He pointed out that the renewal “is not a biological virtue, but concerns the coolness of ideas”.

P. Christidis referred, among other things, to the Social Media, standing on their “positive side” and stressed the need to address the logic of fake news and false news and to feed democracy and education “against the poison”. He also expressed his belief in teamwork with terms and rules.

P. Geroulanos spoke about a “deeply sick political system”, emphasizing that the cause is “in the over-concentration of power”. He noted that the political system is not working, and that the ND is leading the country into new bankruptcy.

In the fourth section of the telematch (the future of the party), P. Christidis called on all democrats and progressive citizens of the country to participate in the internal party elections, including those who have been disappointed and have no hope in the parties. “To inspire people to stay in the party,” he said. He stressed that social democracy means freedom and equality and stressed that “only our party can create a welfare state that balances huge inequalities.”

P. Geroulanos stressed the need to decentralize power through transparency, consultation and accountability, adding that it is a critical parameter because the ND government “invests money in a few”. He also stressed the need to expand the country’s productive base. He also noted that “today there is no party in Parliament that believes that Greece has everything it needs to stand on its own two feet. “The Movement for Change must become this party, and be in the majority.”

Ch. Kastanidis pointed out that he does not choose a period of PASOK, as “important reforms were made depending on the season”. He argued that the solution of serious social issues can be achieved by the government that is “closer to the citizen” and therefore is in favor of a central state-headquarters and the transfer of major responsibilities – with control and support – to the two levels of local government.

In the fifth section of the telematch, (“free” questions) P. Christidis said that the social democracy lost its promotional power because it could not respond to the inequalities. “Social democracy is ‘fermenting’ where the world is suffocating and I call on this world to participate and turn the tide,” he said. He spoke of a “two-speed society” and added that a return to normalcy could not be made with the data of ND but “with another strategy that only our party can have”.

Answering the question posed to him, P. Geroulanos was in favor of the evaluation, even with clauses, provided that any evaluation will be applied first to the leaders (services, education, etc.), as well as any criteria so that the “(any) leadership to follow the same rules” with the evaluated. He noted that with the necessary cuts “the political system will lose privileges”, emphasizing, at the same time that “with the decentralization of power there is hope”.

Ch. Kastanidis said that it is a critical issue to shield the political system so that it does not suffer defeats from business interests, he said that “obviously Novartis is a scandal”, and added that “there were methods by two successive governments to hit politicians”. He stressed the need to change the political and social reality in the face of the current “difficult political reality”.

In the sixth section (questions of each candidate to the others), Ch. Kastanidis characterized the de-ligation as a “necessary choice”, noting that at the same time RES must be imported at double the rate, so that the country does not depend on natural gas and there is provision so that people are not “exiled” from the lignite-rich areas.

Asked about this, P. Geroulanos said that although he had suggested that there be the possibility for everyone to vote electronically in the internal party elections, this was rejected because there are “mold outbreaks” within the party, because they are afraid of the party opening, while they even printed ballots, which means “crossed” ballots, ie they consider the voter a “sheep” and stressed the need to “open the party”.

Ch. Kastanidis did not ask a question to his fellow candidates, as he stated, “I do not choose to ask, I have no questions, I consider them all worthy and we will all move forward together.”
