Regarding the energy crisis, the government representative pointed out that the European Union is in a dynamic process of searching for solutions and Greece is leading the discussions
The Prime Minister’s decision is based both on reasons of institutional order and political stability, in a Europe that knows and will know unprecedented shocks, as long as the successive international crises last, the government representative emphasizes Giannis Oikonomou in an interview with the newspaper “Avgi tis Kyriakis” referring to the Prime Minister’s statement about the exhaustion of the four-year term.
“Simple proportionality, at least, will leave the country with a caretaker government for a sufficient period of time. The political and historical time in the era we live in is absolutely compressed and any inaction can be fatal, especially in a difficult period of external challenges, such as the one we are going through. Greece cannot and should not be plunged into a political crisis at the most critical time, as is unfortunately happening recently to several traditional European powers,” he added.
He points out that for the energy crisis the European Union is in a dynamic process of finding solutions and Greece is leading the discussions and negotiations and the government is optimistic that it will soon have additional tools and means at its disposal for the coming winter. “The support will continue as long as the problems last,” he adds.
To a question about the RES-MPE and its handling Papagelopoulos case Mr. Economou states: “I have clarified that in one part of the accusations, for which Mr. Papagelopoulos is referred to the special court, there was a mistake in the initial announcements. However, Mr. Papagelopoulos – to whom Mr. Tsipras had for a number of years entrusted the portfolio of Deputy Minister of Justice and Human Rights, with responsibility for corruption issues – is referred to the special court for abuse of power, for gross interference with justice in a series of cases, including Novartis. And one should consider that Mr. Papagelopoulos is not the only close associate whom the justice refers to a special court. The same is happening with his minister who was responsible for media issues. In other words, for two areas that are closely related to the quality of our democracy, the rule of law and information, two close associates of Mr. Tsipras, the relevant ministers have been referred by the judiciary to the special court”.
For government partnerships states that they rarely thrive and are unwieldy. “Today, in the midst of a global hurricane of crises, this is no time for hesitation, obstruction and small-party strategies. New Democracy, with absolute responsibility and historical consciousness, claims a clear mandate of self-reliance, so that citizens feel the required confidence to move forward with their lives, as they want. The government must be effective and not a ballast of tactics and strategies that subordinate the national interest to the partisan” he adds.
