“BOAK, which for decades was the big demand for the entire island, within 3 years is taking shape”, said the Prime Minister

In the developments concerning its construction BOAK in Crete was mentioned in his statement o Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The prime minister spoke of a “significant development” after almost a year of consultation and said the project was now likely to start in 2023.

The statement of Kyriakos Mitsotakis in more detail:

“Yesterday we had an important development for Crete. After a long consultation process that lasted more than a year, the environmental conditions of the Northern Road Axis for the Chania – Heraklion section were approved.

To reach this result, it was necessary the continuous and exhaustive cooperation of the competent Ministries of Infrastructure and Transport and the Environment and the bodies of the Local Government of Crete who contributed substantially and creatively to the finalization of the great project.

Now the way is open to start the Second phase of the Competition and within it 2023 to start its construction. The second project, implemented through PPP, Hersonissos – Neapoli, already has a temporary contractor and the construction sites will be set up in the coming months, within 2022. While in the following days the contract will be signed and work will begin for the project from Neapoli to Saint Nicholas. The studies for Kissamos – Chania are being completed, while they are also progressing rapidly for the sections east of Agios Nikolaos.

BOAK, which for decades was the big demand for the entire island, within 3 years is taking shape. It was a commitment that I had made personally and it is being implemented. Studies are completed, approvals are given and soon all Cretans will see construction sites being set up.

Crete is finally getting the road it deserves. And with this road, in combination with all the projects that have been launched, it will fulfill its great development potential. That’s what we said, that’s what we’re doing.”
