“Fifteen fires in 20 days in Ilia is not a coincidence,” said the minister.
For signs of arson in the area of Iliathe Minister of Citizen Protection spoke, Takis Theodorikakosin his statements during a meeting at the mobile operational center “Olympos”, today in Krestena, where he was earlier informed about the efforts to extinguish the fire.
Indeed, as he pointed out, “a citizen has already been arrested for arson” and then referred to the recent fires in Ilia, saying:
“In the last 20 days, 15 fires have started in the Regional Unit of Ilia. There is no one who believes that this happens by accident. It is obvious that there are arsons, that there are plans and we must do everything to find the culprits. There is already an arrest of a citizen, who is accused of arson and who will apologize to the Justice.”
At the same time, Takis Theodorikakos pointed out that “it is a challenge for the local community, the Municipality, the Region and especially for the police and fire authorities to find the culprits of these arsons and deliver them to Justice”.
Regarding the fire fighting, Takis Theodorikakos spoke of “a fierce battle by the 180 men of the Fire Service, the 120 officers of the Greek police, but also the German firefighters who are assisting in the extinguishing work, in order to bring the fire under control and not to endanger human lives”.
“Thanks to everyone’s effective efforts, no human life or homes have been lost,” the Minister of Citizen Protection pointed out and added: “A very tough battle is being fought to deal with this fire as well. First of all, I want to thank the 180 men of the PY and the 120 executives of ELAS, who, in close cooperation with each other and with the local government, are fighting to stop the flames, to save human lives and people’s properties.”
