Kyriakos Mitsotakis revealed his intention to speed up the third dose of the vaccine by submitting a relevant proposal to the National Vaccination Committee from the floor of the parliament in his intervention for the amendment submitted for the compulsory vaccination.
“I have asked the Vaccination Committee to shorten the period between the second and third dose, because the immunity is gradually declining. To open the third installment in 4 months and I believe that the business leaders can respond “, he noted characteristically.
Regarding the decision on compulsory vaccinations for citizens over 60, he said that “we have exhausted all the intermediate stages” and added that no constitutional issues are raised.
“This initiative is not manifested in neutral time with horizontal application, but also comes in view of the worrying Omicron mutation and focusing on the specific age category that comes first to Covid victims but last in the choice to be vaccinated,” he pointed out.
According to the Prime Minister, this decision comes as the culmination of a months-long persuasion effort, which tormented him. “I am a deeply liberal politician and compulsion is difficult to digest. But I feel the responsibility for the common good is heavier. “I prefer to look strict for the time being, but to prove to be healthy”, he stated characteristically.
He added that the pandemic figures for citizens over the age of 60 are relentless, indicating that they are the ones who 9 out of 10 die from coronavirus, 7 out of 10 are infected and 8 out of 10 are intubated. “These are those who are most at risk and besiege the health system by depriving citizens of treatment for serious illnesses,” he said.
In fact, he stressed that in the last three weeks, those over 60 were the ones who showed the greatest eagerness to be vaccinated. As Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, out of a total of 2 million appointments of all doses closed during this period, out of the 580,000 who are not vaccinated in this age category, only 70,000 rushed to make an appointment and this is the smallest percentage increase compared to all other categories.
Regarding the fine of 100 euros per month that will be imposed on citizens who have not been vaccinated after January 16, he stressed that “only the fine gives the regulation its genuine obligation” and is “one last push to receive the right decision “. He pointed out that the fine is much lower than that of Austria (7,000 euros) and Italy for violating Covid law (1,000 euros).
In the same context, the Prime Minister underlined that it comes after constant and many months of persuasion, mentioning the mobile teams for the vaccination of residents in inaccessible areas, the controlled access to closed areas, the introduction of a third dose as a precondition for full vaccination in Europe. European Certificate Committee.
Regarding the extension of the obligation to categories of workers, he noted that “the ICUs are not filled by military and police. They are full of elderly people “.
Deuterology
“You made many appeals to us, Mr. Tsipras, but I did not hear any proposal,” said the Prime Minister in his deuterology, responding to the president of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipras. “You said something that is completely scientifically wrong, that if we were in the vaccination rates of Portugal we would not solve our problem for two months. You said clearly that if we magically reached these percentages, we would need two months to see decongestion in the health system “, said the Prime Minister and added:” But our problem is also a problem of Germany and Austria. “The issue is not to create more ICUs than we can build, but to keep people from reaching the hospital so that more are vaccinated.”
“You talked for 25 minutes, will you finally tell us if you will finally vote against and what do you propose to increase vaccination rates? “The only suggestion I heard is to go together to convince the suspects who do not want to be vaccinated,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Mitsotakis to Tsipras: “You have not submitted anything, with the exception of the usual stereotypes about the creation of more departments in schools. Decide if you are with common sense “
Tritology
“I would prefer not to close the dialogue with the prime minister’s trilogy. “Because Mr. Tsipras, the best proof of a difficult situation for the respondent is to try to change the issue and talk about retirees,” said the prime minister, responding to Alexis Tsipras’ deuterology.
“Two simple questions. Do you believe, yes or no, that health protocols in schools need to change? Do you agree with your advisor that vaccinated people should not have access to transportation, public services and tax information? Your counselor has the proposal, compulsory vaccination for those over 18 and non-access of the means of transport to the unvaccinated “noted Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Responding again to Alexis Tsipras, after the trilogy of the leader of the official opposition, the prime minister said that “I have no problem with the scientific point of view, I have a problem with populism, with the non-point of view. You asked me about the opinion of Mr. Mosialos, obviously I disagree “he said and added:” You did not have the courage to take a position on the opinion of your advisor. You have not submitted anything, except the usual stereotypes about creating more classes in schools. Decide if you are with common sense and collective effort and leave the division of responsibilities to the Greek people when the time comes for the elections “.
And the prime minister stressed: “This faction will continue to walk listening to the scientists. On the issue of schools again you are wrong. With your proposal to close the classes for 3 days, half the schools would be closed at a very high speed. We have chosen to keep our schools open with increased tests. We are sure that for our children and for the overall monitoring of the pandemic, we have the right treatment “.
Concluding his answer to Alexis Tsipras, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: “The government will be judged for its choices. I have given sufficient explanations for the need to make this decision. To ask our fellow citizens to hurry to close the appointment even with feelings of dissatisfaction with the government. I do not care if it will cost me some more votes in the elections. “I’m convinced we’re doing the right thing.”
