Commenting on the statements of the Minister of Energy K. Skrekas, D. Manzos spoke of the overdependence of our country from natural gas and referred to the responsibilities of the last governments that led the country without a compass in the international energy “storm”.
He emphasized that the Government: “Subsidizes and re-subsidizes without result, with inconceivable amounts from the state budget, which are equal to the percentage of the GDP given for health and education. The way the Government is going with the subsidies – 1.9 billion for September alone – we fear that in the winter – when consumption will be very high because the message is “consume to be subsidized” the state budget will have no more to give in subsidies. The solution that PASOK-Movement for Change has been proposing for months is the ceiling on the retail price of electricity. As long as ND and SYRIZA insisted on the wholesale ceiling, what were we saying? The Government should come up with a national measure, which is included in the European Commission’s toolbox, and invite the energy companies to take part in this crisis. So that, transparently and safely, each consumer knows how much he will pay and how much he will bear as a share of this great international crisis”.
Regarding the issue of surveillance, D. Manzos emphasized that the danger caused by the toxic confrontation in matters of institutions and democracy is great and clarified that “we have no objection, but as long as there are tangible indications that previous governments had adopted similar practices, these should be examined. We have done it in all the cases of examination committees. The ND, on the other hand, has not agreed to all requests of PASOK – Movement for Change, such as e.g. for the first half of 2015″ and added: “From the beginning, therefore, we say “everything in the light” and request that the Institutions and Transparency Committee meet immediately. The Committee should be convened before Friday’s Plenary Session because at this moment the leaders are being asked to position themselves to make impressions on Maximos’ non-existent leaks and non-papers. The Parliament has not been formally informed about the case”.
