“As we go to the end of this government’s term and ask the Greek people for renewal for the next one, the memories must become inactive” said Mr. Voridis
The Minister of the Interior, Makis Voridis, gave a response to the objections of the opposition that the government is “on the run” and that it is “collapsing”, especially after the case of the attempt to monitor the mobile phone of Mr. Androulakis by the EYP, speaking at an event of the ND with self-administered , in Oreokastro, Thessaloniki.
Mr Voridis stressed that if these claims were true, they should at least have been recorded in the latest measurements – and added:
“The government that is “collapsing” today has a difference of nine and a half points, i.e. it is still the hegemonic one.”
“One will say: Was what was done right? No one needed to say this, the prime minister told us,” continued Mr. Voridis, emphasizing that the prime minister himself recognized the error, made the corrective actions and the necessary replacements and acted institutionally. “On the contrary, all the others who were supposed to be cut off, the first and foremost interested party, Mr. Androulakis, did not even bother to pay a visit from the National Intelligence Service to find out the reason, which we had told him from the first day ” added Mr. Voridis and continued: “And in this case, the entire ND is absolutely united and coordinated and aligned and there is not the slightest disagreement. The whole SW”.
Mr. Voridis argued that in the time remaining until the next elections, two power proposals are being formed: one will be, according to the official opposition, the proposal of a “progressive” government, i.e., “Prime Minister Tsipras, with partner and supporter Varoufakis Androulakis next to him” and the other proposal will be “the independent government of ND and Kyriakos Mitsotakis”. What will the people choose? – asked Mr. Voridis rhetorically, to answer himself that he will choose the renewal of the term of the current government.
“As we go to the end of this government’s term and we will ask the Greek people for renewal for the next one, the memories must become active” said Mr. Voridis and continued: “Left again, or independent government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis? I think the answer will be quick, clear and catalytic.” He also saw that the mayors who have common ideological references with the ND, will also prevail in the upcoming municipal elections next year.
Afterwards, he also referred to the cooperation, programs and support funds of the municipalities for the accomplishment of their work, in the particularly difficult situation, and committed to the continuation of their support. Finally, he referred to the recruitment of permanent teachers and other specialties, while he revealed that an announcement for 1000 municipal police officers is being promoted, to strengthen the sense of security in the municipalities.
“Development for everyone, now” stressed the deputy minister of the interior, Stelios Petsas, that it is the project of the ND government, explaining that the current government did all the preparatory work to consolidate a climate of stability, trust and security, in particularly difficult circumstances.
Mr. Petsas also referred to the institutional interventions and actions of the government, such as the reduction of taxes and unemployment, the support of self-government and the treatment of punctuality, with the aim of the “resilience” of society. He added, however, that the long-term plan, the development vision, is on the government’s agenda, while the resources – national and European – are currently available to achieve it.
Specifically for self-government, Mr. Petsas referred to the steps taken, with the legislation to strengthen governability and the government’s “permanent support” to municipalities, amid pandemic and energy crisis conditions – and committed to the continuation of support of self-government.
The secretary of the ND Political Committee, Pavlos Marinakis, referred to the “real” projects that Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis will announce at this year’s TIF and added that what was done by the previous government and the current official opposition in self-government, are the “mirror, in what they tried to do in all the rest.”
“Whatever they can’t control, whoever they can’t convince, they go to mine, to destroy,” said Mr. Marinakis and added: “Can’t their own representatives gain trust in the local government? Simple analogy… Can’t they convince about their ideas in universities? Occupancies…”.
Mr. Marinakis referred to the actions of the government and the prime minister, who, amidst pandemic conditions and the energy crisis, succeeded in “reducing more than fifty taxes”, reducing unemployment to six units, retaining jobs, while after for so many years there have been so many appointments of permanent teachers. He also referred to the opposition official’s criticisms regarding the case of the attempted monitoring of Mr. Androulakis’ mobile phone by the EYP, stressing that the government and the ND, for a month now, has been and is doing a “very harsh self-criticism”, for “something which all scientists agree is legal’ and ‘for something which, the law has been in force since previous governments’.
“Well, we do this, because in our vocabulary there are some words that do not exist in theirs. Responsibility, integrity and political courage” And you know something? We do not accept lessons in democracy and the functioning of institutions from those who have two ministers accused in the special court…”.
The Deputy Minister of the Interior (Macedonia-Thrace) Stavros Kalafatis, referred to the more than thirty projects that the Prime Minister mentioned in the previous days, which will change, as he said, the image of Thessaloniki and the wider region, and will strengthen its development perspective .
The president of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Central Macedonia, Ignatios Kaitezidis, recognized the legislative initiatives of the government to strengthen the “governability” of the municipalities and the launch of the “Antonis Tritsis” program, while he requested the continuation of support to cover the energy costs of the municipalities and the suspension of the special burial fee for waste, in order not to burden the budgets of the municipalities.
The event was organized by the secretariat of Local Self-Government and Crisis Management of the ND.
