By escalating the internationalization of Turkish provocation, Athens responds to Ankara’s ongoing paroxysm of threats and slanders, having allies and partners on its side.
According to diplomatic sources, the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias will immediately send letters to all the Members of the Security Council, the Secretary General of the UN, as well as the Secretary General of NATO in which the unprecedented statements of Turkish officials against Greece will be listed verbatim .
“The Greek side considers that the text of these statements is so outrageous that any comment is unnecessary”, the same sources specifically state. Already since Saturday when the new delirious escalation of the Turkish leadership began, the European partners, including the High Representative Josep Borrell and the USA, were informed.
After the threats and lies of Tayyip ErdoÄŸan and his government officials against Greece, today it was the turn of the Minister of the Interior of Turkey, Suleiman Soylu, to bring back an old false narrative that Turkey boldly presented against our country from time to time, that of terrorism . The Turkish Minister claimed that the Turkish police arrested a terrorist who, Mr. Soylu claimed, trained in Lavrio and was ready to carry out an attack in Istanbul.
Erdogan’s deputy prime minister, Fuat Oktay, made sure to maintain the high tone, again issuing threats against Greece. “If you are going to enter a game against Turkey, you should think twice. Everyone should watch their steps before taking any action,” he said.
The Czech Republic sided with Greece, with the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterizing Erdogan’s threats as unacceptable, stating that “The unacceptable threat against EU member states, such as the one expressed about Greece during the recent public speech of President Erdogan, are extremely damaging.”
And the representative of the Commission, in charge of foreign affairs Peter Stano, condemned Turkey’s escalation, commenting that “these statements are a source of great concern” and called on Ankara “to refrain from escalating rhetoric even if it commits itself to good neighborly relations and not the opposite.
Mr. Stano also called on Ankara to respect International Law and to deal with any open issues with Greece in a peaceful way and through dialogue, while reminding that “Greece is a member state of the EU. and the sovereignty and integrity of a member state of the Union must be respected.
