Regarding the repeated and escalating Turkish provocations and threats against Greece, he informed the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The prime minister received the head of French diplomacy at the Maximou Palace on Tuesday and had the opportunity to inform in person about the threats of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his ministers, which even go as far as questioning Greek territorial integrity.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also had the opportunity to reiterate his position on Europe’s concerted effort against the energy crisis.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on international, regional and European issues, with the energy crisis at the forefront.
The Prime Minister reported to Mrs. Colonna the measures taken by the government to tackle the energy crisis and reiterated the need to tackle this major challenge with a coordinated European response.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis made a special reference to the important possibilities that Greece offers for the energy security of the EU and the independence from Russian energy sources, as a strategic energy hub. The latest developments in Ukraine were also discussed.
The prime minister informed the French Foreign Minister for the escalation of Turkish aggression and provocation and threats from official lips against Greek sovereignty, stressing that the neighboring country is causing tension, undermining security and stability in the region.
He emphasized that Greece is a pillar of stability in the wider region and reiterated the need for dialogue based on the principles of International Law, including the Law of the Sea, and good neighborliness.
The meeting was attended, on behalf of the Greek side, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Theoharis Lalakos, the Director General of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Leonidas Rokanas, the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Anna -Maria Boura and Deputy Government Representative Aristotelia Peloni.
