September is the decisive month for the parties in order to enter the new political year on the right foot. Where are they looking? In the first polls. The measurements that have seen the light of day so far show that New Democracy should not worry, as no dramatic change in the political scene is visible.

The blue faction with a minimal attrition is ahead of SYRIZA by 6 to 8 points. In the official opposition they see rearrangements after the presence of the political leaders in Thessaloniki.

However, this year’s September is very different from the previous ones and the TIF will not be the only factor that will shape the correlation of forces.

In a pre-election year and about 8 months before the polls are set up, big mistakes are unforgivable. Both for the government that has suffered some “scratches” after three years in power and for him SYRIZA which is looking for a way to recover in the crucial indicator of “winning performance” which is lagging significantly.

This is why in Koumoundourou they are trying to exploit in every way the case of surveillance by the EYP. They estimate that it is Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ “blunder” that can turn things upside down. Especially if there are revelations during the meeting of the Investigative Committee about new legal connections.

In Maximou, they do not seem to be worried and hope that in the remaining 30 days, the framework and the necessary filters that must exist for the operation of the EYP will be found. After all, those who were directly involved in the monitoring of Nikos Androulakis are no longer in their position.

The measurements, however, show once again that the game is played around the economy. Kyriakos Mitsotakis will focus there on the TIF with the government program that will be announced on Saturday evening by the Vellide Foundation. The aim is to address the entire spectrum of Greek society. To young people solving the issue of housing, to pensioners with the increases expected from the beginning of the year and definitely to the issue of energy.

It has been decided to continue absorbing up to 90% of the readjustment clause from electricity tariffs. In Maximos, after all, they expect to receive a “helping hand” from the European Union as well.

SYRIZA characterizes the government’s measures as insufficient, and at the TIF on September 17-18, Alexis Tsipras will attempt both to deconstruct them and to present his own realistic and ground-breaking government program.

We also expect developments in September this year regarding the possible change of the electoral law. During the press conference on Sunday at TIF the prime minister will open his papers. The executives of the majority with their public positions show that they want a system that will lower the bar of self-reliance, but Kyriakos Mitsotakis has not said his last word.

His decision will determine a lot. If he proceeds with an intervention that will give him good chances in the second ballots to secure a majority in Parliament, the entire opposition will accuse him of accepting defeat and disrespecting the institutions on his part.

If the rift with Nikos Androulakis maintains its institutional profile, which does not allow him to hope for any cooperation, it may be decisive. In any case, the strategies of the two “big ones” will be adjusted based on the measurements and quality data they will have in their hands at the end of the month.
