The president of SYRIZA submitted the request to the Speaker of the Parliament

Request for an Extraordinary Convocation of the Special Standing Committee on Institutions and Transparency about the developments in relation to the monitoring by the EYP, he testified Alexis Tsipras to the president of the Parliament. The relevant letter follows.

Dear Mr. President,
The official opposition sounds the alarm regarding the effective operation of institutional guarantees linked to the protection of the privacy of communications and in general of our Republic and the rule of law against arbitrary and illegal actions of public authorities and private individuals. The developments in our country in relation to what until now we considered a post-revolutionary democratic acquis are, unfortunately, rapid and unfavorable, with the Prime Minister himself being the first responsible.
The “iceberg” of cases of surveillance of the Prime Minister’s political opponents is just beginning to be revealed in its full extent. In fact, the method of sending trapped links (links), through the Predator spy software, seems to have been repeated more times than those we knew until now. In particular, the SYRIZA-PS Member of Parliament and head of the Citizen Protection and Civil Protection department, also responsible for the matters concerning the EYP, crime and the response to natural disasters, Christos Spirtzis, discovered that he too received in November 2021, in in a few days, on his mobile phone, two messages with a malicious link (link), one of which was absolutely identical to the one that, a short time before, had been received in exactly the same way by Mr. Koukakis and Androulakis. The questions that arise are relentless, with the main one being whether the head of the SYRIZA sector and former minister Christos Spirtzis, like Mr. Androulakis and Mr. Koukakis, was put under surveillance by the EYP, and if so, for what reason.
At the same time, through publications in the press, we are informed that officials of the EYP, which is still under the direct administrative control of the prime minister himself, are taking action to destroy files from the case files of the journalist Mr. Athanasiou Koukakis and the MEP and leader of PASOK-KINAL Mr. Nikolaos Androulakis. Obviously, such reprehensible cover-ups testify to the panic of those responsible for what has happened in these cases. Their activity must immediately be brought to the attention of the members of the Commission in every detail, checked and, above all, dealt with before all the critical material that the ruling heads of the EYP want to disappear is destroyed.
We promptly asked the prime minister to back down from his stance and repeal the provision of article 87 of Law 4790/2021, the passage of which he himself organized, with the aim of anyone who suspects that his privacy has been removed in an arbitrary manner, to ask to know. We requested that all investigations be carried out in time to the competent public authorities and private individuals, in order to find the sender of the spyware messages, as well as the person who commissioned and financed their mission. None of this has been done and all sorts of stakeholders have secured the necessary time to organize and develop a data and evidence tampering plan.
Following all of this, Mr. President, and in accordance with article 43A of the Rules of the Parliament which expressly states that “the Committee on Institutions and Transparency belongs to the parliamentary control over the issues concerning the activity of the National Intelligence Service (NIS). )”, I believe that it is immediately necessary for the officials of the EYP to give explanations and at the same time to request an immediate audit of the AIAE in relation to what concerns the new case that is revealed, that of Christos Spirtzis.
In view of the above, I invite you to ask the President of the Special Standing Committee on Institutions and Transparency to convene it as an emergency and immediately in the next few days, in order to summon to a hearing a) the Governor of the EYP Mr. Demiris, b) the Prosecutor at the EYP and Vlachou and c) the President of ADAE Mr. Rammos.

The Leader of the Official Opposition
Alexis Tsipras
