He and her Minister of Education Niki Kerameos jointly participated in a panel on the topic of digital transformation of education and access to open data in education organized in the framework of the UN Summit.
Jeffrey Sachs in his presentation to the Plenary of the Synod and before all the representatives of the UN member countries stated that he is “enthusiastic about the innovations of Minister Kerameos and the dynamic reforms in Greece” and added that “Students from all over the world will want to flock to Athens for the education of the 21st century”, because, as he said, “these reforms of the Minister open up the educational process to be a global, public good: synergies around the world, new opportunities for education internationally […..]. You are creating something extremely powerful, and it will have a profound effect on everyone, for everyone’s benefit.”
The Minister representing him prime minister he spoke, among other things, about the changes that have occurred at all levels of education in Greece in recent years and the shift to skills, including digital ones, as well as about the catalytic role of the pandemic in the digitization of processes.
In addition, Greece organized two rounds of national consultations and actively participated in the preparatory Summit of Education Ministers in Paris last June. The opening speech of the last meeting of the day was delivered by the UN Special Envoy for Education, former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Gordon Brown, underlining the need for all children to have access to quality education.
Afterwards, Niki Kerameos held a bilateral meeting with Leonardo Garnier, Special Adviser to UN Secretary-General António Guterres for the Summit on the Transformation of Education and former Minister of Education and Minister of Planning and Economic Policy of Costa Rica. The Minister presented to him the reform work that has been carried out in Education in the last three years and the innovations that have been introduced at all levels of education.
