“If we had acted, Greece would have violated the Turkish border,” says Notis Mitarakis in letters to Channel 4 and Der Spiegel
Letter- reply to Channel 4 and Der Spiegel Regarding the reports they published about the 38 migrants in Evros, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Notis Mitarakis, sent.
The Minister of Immigration explains once again that the accusations that the 38 immigrants were on Greek soil are false. At the same time, he points out that even the NGO HumanRights360, which represents the group of 38 applicants at the European Court of Human Rights, admitted that the islet where the migrants were located is located within Turkish territory. He even clarifies that both the Greek Police, the Greek Armed Forces and the Greek government pointed out from the beginning that the islet was on Turkish territory.
“If we had acted, Greece would have violated the Turkish border,” says Notis Mitarakis characteristically in the letter.
Regarding the reports of a dead child in Evros, the minister underlines that it is clear from the facts and from the available photographic material that has been gathered that there is no evidence of either a missing child or a dead one.
“The deposition at the European Court of Human Rights referred to 4 children (born 2013, 2013, 2017 & 2018). These children are all alive and well in Greece. No fifth child has been reported. Furthermore, no fifth child appears in any photo: in fact, all of the children featured in all of the released photos are happily alive and well,” the letter-response points out.
Finally, regarding the child who was reported to have been stung by a scorpion, the Minister of Immigration emphasizes that “he was in good health. “No one required hospitalization after the initial checkup.”
“We are sure that a respected news organization like yours, which has high journalistic standards, will take immediate steps to inform your viewers as, in light of the new information, it would not be an exaggeration to claim that Greece has been unfairly criticized and her reputation was unfairly tarnished.” ends up.
