Xanthos: The Lytra study confirms that the tragedy of the 33,000 deaths of the pandemic is the responsibility of Mitsotakis who left the NHS defenseless

“We consider that the political responsibilities of Mr. Mitsotakis and his government are numerous and criminal,” says Mr. Xanthos.

The new scientific study Lytra proves that the health tragedy with the 33,000 deaths of the pandemic in the country “is mainly due to the political choice of the government to leave the NHS unprotected and unarmored” said the head of the Health Department of SYRIZA PS, Andreas Xanthos.

“We consider that the political responsibilities of Mr. Mitsotakis and his government are numerous and criminal,” says Mr. Xanthos.

Xantho’s entire statement

The new scientific study by Assistant Professor of Public Health Mr. Lytra, which was published these days, proves what has been known to the medical and scientific community for a long time.

That is to say, that the responsibility for the health tragedy that the country is currently experiencing and for the 33 thousand deaths in our country from the pandemic lies in the reduced resilience of the public health system and is not due to some objective conditions due to the global health crisis. Obviously, it is not due to a scientific inadequacy of the human resources of the National Health Service; of doctors, nurses and all other health professionals.

It is mainly due to the political choice of the government to leave the NHS unprotected and unarmored, not to strengthen the frontline departments, the critical functions of the system, such as primary health care, pre-hospital management, emergency departments, covid clinics and of course the Intensive Care Units. There, at the peak of the epidemic waves, a drama developed with hundreds of people intubated outside the ICU, which, as the study proved, 98% died.

We believe that the decisive factor is neither the infrastructure nor the equipment. The decisive factor is human resources, it is the competence and experience of the medical and nursing staff. And in this direction, the government did nothing important during the health crisis.

It did not utilize the findings and lessons learned from other European countries either.

It did not capitalize on the findings of the first phase of the study.

He really left the NHS human resources at the mercy of a state of operational blackout and complete disorganization of public structures.

We consider that the political responsibilities of Mr. Mitsotakis and his government are numerous and criminal.

What is needed now is a drastic intervention to strengthen the NHS at all levels and especially in ICUs and critical services. This requires a change in political things, it requires a progressive plan, which will give public care the priority it deserves.
