ND’s goal is in the first polls to ensure a “safety” difference from SYRIZA that will not leave Alexis Tsipras’s party any room for hope

With his eyes on the “many bride”, i.e. in the center, he made his speech Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the New Democracy parliamentary group.

With yesterday’s meeting, the prime minister effectively declared the start of the pre-election period and put his party on alert, stressing that “New Democracy is the faction of all Greeks who look forward and aim high”.

The 48 years since the establishment of the blue faction was the best occasion to give the signal to all the cadres to communicate the party program and exorcise the “loose vote”.

It was no coincidence that the Prime Minister mentioned that “citizens must be informed in time about the trap of simple proportionality. To realize that the first ballot will ultimately have the weight of the final one and that it will not be a casual opportunity to send messages, but the foundation of their choices for tomorrow. The one that will finally show what government they want, so that with the second vote they can consolidate its victory, offering it the power to put its program into practice”.

The goal of the ruling faction is clear. They wish in the first polls that the difference with SYRIZA will give New Democracy a “security” that will not leave Alexis Tsipras’s party any room for hope that it can claim the first place in the “second round”.

The yardstick for how far behind the current official opposition should be in second place has not been defined, but it is obvious that the difference of 8 points, recorded on average by the latest measurements, is considered to be a good difference. After all, he won the 2019 elections with 8.32%.

Essentially the Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of simple analogy that will act as the stepping stone to self-reliance. Therefore, the closer New Democracy is to 37% on the first Sunday of the elections, the simpler things will be. And he did not hide his desire to secure an absolute majority in the Parliament, after addressing his deputies he said: “A strong national boat means a self-reliant Greece and a stable helm means a strong New Democracy in governance.”

In Koumoundourou, the Alexis Tsipras has raised the bar and they believe that in the spring when the elections are held they will be in first place. With this basic line they move and adjust their tactics. In the case of defeat if SYRIZA manages to be close to New Democracy, it is estimated that anything is possible for the second round.

The central narrative is based on the fact that Kyriakos Mitsotakis is responsible for inflating the multiple crises, while it will become increasingly clear from Alexis Tsipras in the next period that the invitation he is addressing has no party boundaries.

Alexis Tsipras continues to see social groups trying to highlight all the bad texts of the government and to communicate his own program that he announced to the TIF. Yesterday, at the meeting he had with pensioners, he raised his voice, claiming that Kyriakos Mitsotakis cheated him obscenely. Committed to retroactive performance and reinstatement of the 13th Amendment.

What do the two political leaders have in common? The supra-party call they are making ahead of the elections. Because apart from Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his parliamentary group, the leader of the main opposition is also addressing the centrist voters, who, as they argue in Koumoundourou, do not forgive the prime minister for interfering with the rules of the political game with the case of surveillance. For this reason, they will insist on the issue of EYP connections.

At the same time as the high tones used by several executives on issues such as the university police, they are also looking to attract more left-wing radical audiences who had trusted SYRIZA in 2015.
