“We have nothing to say with Greece… We leave it to time” – How the Turkish president described the verbal episode with the Greek prime minister at the dinner in Prague
The Turkish president appeared defiant again, Recep Tayyip Erdogan towards Greece in his statements during the press conference he gave after the leaders’ dinner in Prague and the tension that prevailed during it with the Greek prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The Turkish president, not only blamed Greece, but repeated his threats of attack, however putting “those who disturb Turkey” in the frame of a possible attack.
As reported by the SKAI correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, Erdogan stated: “At the dinner I had my speech, I finished it. The gentleman seems to have been greatly disturbed by my speech, and because he was disturbed, and although it is not in the spirit of the dinner, he took the floor. I don’t know who he got the permission from, maybe the president. And there he answered us. He thought we spoke harshly. But it’s not like that. They are not where they should be. You know their policy is based on lies. All a lie. There is no honesty. When we say to meet all the coastal countries, they do not come. But they are waiting for Turkey to take the step. They put many countries as intermediaries. Today many countries were waiting for us to take some step. Not only Greece, but also South Cyprus (Republic of Cyprus) told us to meet. We told them to stay here and see you later. I told them you have to get the license from somewhere else. He told me no, I don’t take anyone’s permission… I replied that you always come here with the permission of others. He told me that I have two months left, let’s talk to solve the issue.”
When asked if he intends to start a dialogue and meet with the Greek side, the Turkish president replied:
“We currently have nothing to say with Greece. We leave it to time and in time we hope to find some opportunity to talk.”
When asked if “when you said one night we will come suddenly” you meant an attack on Greece, he said:
“You got the point right. Whichever country bothers us and attacks us, our answer is “we can come suddenly one night”. This is how they should know. Let them understand. Since you understood it that way, so they understood it too.
