Anastasiades: UN and EU are responsible for the Cyprus issue and Turkey

“The whole effort, the non-implementation of what was agreed in Berlin on November 25, was a way to waste time in order to ostracize Mr. Akkintzi,” said the president of Cyprus

There is no Greek Cypriot leader who has not consciously made efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus problem. There is no political force that did not contribute with its own contribution, said its president Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis.

Mr. Anastasiadis addressed the anti-occupation event of the Municipality of Morphou, where he referred to the efforts to resolve the Cyprus conflict in recent years, but also to Turkey’s claim for a two-state solution.

“The whole effort, the non-implementation of what was agreed in Berlin on November 25, was how to waste time, in order to ostracize Mr. Akkintzi, let the current resident come, who implements Turkey’s orders to the letter. This is what they sought and this is proven by the submissions of proposals that they submitted to the General Secretary on April 25, 2021 when they now relentlessly put forward the claim for a two-state solution. Against the resolutions of the UN, against the decisions of the Security Council, against the principles and values in general of the world order or the EU”, he pointed out, to add that “those who are responsible are those who, through their uncompromising positions, tried to transform Cyprus into a controlled, or subordinate State, as they turned occupied Cyprus. At the same time, the United Nations and the EU are also responsible.”

President Anastasiades noted that “it should be understood that as long as International Community, as much as the EU, willingly turning a blind eye, accepting or tolerating Turkish behavior is like rewarding the aggressor, who wants to turn into a victim. There is no other way to explain Mr. Erdogan’s behavior. It is the tolerance of Europe that breeds him. Otherwise, he would not have had the audacity, in front of the United Nations, but also at yesterday’s meeting in Prague of the European Community, to project that he seeks the solution of any problems in a friendly way with the neighboring states on the basis of International Law.”

And he concluded: “The fight continues to convince those who make decisions”.
