“This Agreement will contribute to peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, which is already facing a series of challenges,” says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Greece welcomes the reaching of an Agreement between Israel and Lebanon on the delimitation of their maritime zones, through the mediation efforts of the US and especially of the High Adviser for Energy Security Amos Hochstein”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states in a statement and continues:
“This Agreement will contribute to peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, which is already facing a series of challenges.
It demonstrates that the settlement of disputes between countries regarding the delimitation of maritime zones is possible only through respect for International Law.
As such, it is an example that all countries in the region should follow.
It is recalled that Greece has already concluded two agreements on the delimitation of the EEZ, with Italy and Egypt, and has agreed with Albania to refer the issue to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.”
