More than 200,000 citizens are expected to cast their ballots by 7pm to elect a new president to the Movement for Change in the second round of by-elections.

The turnout is considered satisfactory according to information from EDEKAP (the competent election committee), with the final result of the electoral “battle” between Nikos Androulakis and George Papandreou expected to be announced around 9 pm. However, it is predicted that at 20:00 there will be a clear picture of who will prevail.

By 4:00 p.m., about 165,000 had cast their ballots, with the process proceeding smoothly, with few and individual problems in some areas.

Androulakis: “Today is a great day for the homeland, the democratic party and PASOK”

From Peristeri, Nikos Androulakis stressed that today is a great day for the homeland, the democratic party and PASOK.

“Today, the dreams, hopes, expectations of all the brave are united,” he said, calling for great participation and a clear mandate, “so that together we can make the democratic party strong and proud again.”

Papandreou: “Tomorrow we have a lot of work, new struggles”.

George Papandreou, who voted in Nice, called on the citizens to choose a strong leadership, with a strong voice in parliament for a strong Greece and a just society.

The results and percentages of the first round:

  1. Nikos Androulakis: 36.88% – 99,120 votes
  2. George Papandreou: 27.97% – 75,183 votes
  3. Andreas Loverdos: 25.98% – 69,827 votes
  4. Pavlos Christidis: 3.25% – 8,733 votes
  5. Pavlos Geroulanos: 2.99% – 8,027 votes
  6. Harris Kastanidis: 2.94% – 7,908 votes
