The president of the Libyan Parliament condemned the Turkish-Libyan memorandum – Meeting with Dendia

Mr. Dendias expressed, after the meeting with Mr. Issa, his satisfaction with the Libyan politician’s condemnation of the Turkish-Libyan memorandums.

Constructive for the Greek-Libyan relations was characterized by Nikos Dendias the meeting with the speaker of the House of Representatives of Libya Aguila Saleh Issa after the diplomatic incident with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the government of Tripoli Naila Mangous.

Mr. Dendias expressed, after the meeting with Mr. Issa, his satisfaction with the Libyan politician’s condemnation of the Turkish-Libyan memorandums.

It is noted that the Greek Foreign Minister decided to leave immediately for Benghazi, due to the surprise appearance at Tripoli airport of Mangus who signed the illegal pact with Mevlut Cavusoglu.

“I met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Libya and representative of the city of Al Qubbah, Aguila Saleh Issa. I expressed to him the Greek satisfaction for the condemnation of the Turkish-Libyan “memorandums” (2019, 2022). Constructive discussion on parliamentary issues and bilateral relations” wrote the foreign minister in a tweet after the meeting.

Greece wants to have talks with Libyathe foreign minister clarified earlier, concluding his visit to Benghazi, “but with the government that will emerge from the elections and will represent the real will of the Libyan people.”

“With this government, the Hellas indeed, he will start talks and I believe we will reach a conclusion relatively quickly, because the issue is rather clear”, noted Mr. Dendias characteristically and added:

“The caretaker government of Libya has an obligation to fully cooperate in order to lead the country to quick elections.”

As Mr. Dendias mentioned, the visit to Libya, as planned, started from Tripoli, where he was going to meet with President Menfi.

“But the minister of foreign affairs of the caretaker government tried to force me with her presence at the airport to meet with her, as a result of which I interrupted my trip to Tripoli and flew to Benghazi, where the program was followed,” he noted.

First of all, as he pointed out, the delivery ceremony of the 30,000 vaccines took place, followed by an additional 200,000 that we have sent to Libya.

“Then the meeting with Marshal Haftar, who repeated his well-known positions on the Turkish-Libyan “memorandum” and on the presence of Turkey in Libya.”

He then had a meeting with MPs and members of the House of Representatives where he had the opportunity to explain the Greek positions to them.

“In fact, experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave them details regarding International Law and the International Law of the Sea,” he emphasized.

“Also, I had the opportunity to be present at a ceremony in the port of Benghazi, where Greece is providing assistance for the reopening of the port. The port of Benghazi is extremely important, it is used not only for the transport of goods to Benghazi itself, but also for the transport of humanitarian aid to the countries of the Sahel”, he pointed out and mentioned that Greece has provided assistance in two phases so that the port can to become functional again.

Mr. Dendias then flew to Tobruk where he will meet with Akila Saleh, the president of the House of Representatives, “so that we have a formed common understanding on the issues of the Turkish presence in Libya and the Turkish-Libyan memoranda.”
