Dendias on the episode in Tripoli: Well, we can’t pretend that we don’t see

The foreign minister emphasized that the agreement he had made with Menfi was not respected and that the decision to immediately leave Tripoli “is not only a matter of symbolism, but also of substance”.

For what took place in Tripoli and for the attempt of the transitional government to trap him diplomatically spoke the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with Nea Sabatokyri, emphasized that the agreement he had made with Menfi was not respected and that the decision to immediately leave Tripoli “is not only a matter of symbolism but also of substance”.

“Menfi asked us to go to Tripoli. We agreed as a personal concession to him on the condition that there would be no official contacts or contacts with the Provisional Government. We would go, we would see him, we would leave. The fact that Mangous appeared means that the agreement was not kept,” he said.

Regarding France’s communication with the Libyan government, the foreign minister emphasizes that “the issue is that for everyone it is true that the government has a limited mandate. That means he can’t sign agreements, but I dare say he’s of limited use. And the second is that these governments are not obliged to face our own reality which is the second Turkish-Libyan memorandum.

Bad lies the position of the United Nations that this government is not authorized to sign agreements came from us. And we worked very hard within HE to make this happen.”

“Therefore, the decision to immediately leave Tripoli in this way is not only a matter of symbolism but also of substance. It is not possible to do what we do not see. And the other is that there is an understanding with the Egyptians who do not want substantial contacts with the Dbeiba government,” he says.

At the same time, referring to the Egyptians, he said: “They say that this government should hold elections. And not only does it not hold elections, it seizes its existence by exploiting Libya’s resources as it sees fit and also signs with the Turks. Well, it’s not possible…”
