Tsipras: To break the silence – To support structures that support abused women

by

“We’ve always had feminicides, but they didn’t have this intensity and they weren’t visible,” stressed the president of SYRIZA.

On the side of workers and women who find support in Women’s Counseling Support Center of the Municipality of Keratsini-Drapetsonas was found in the morning Alexis Tsipras on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

As he pointed out, “I visited the Center with the aim of encouraging you, congratulating you and pledging that we will do everything we can to expand these structures”.

“We have always had feminicides, but they did not have this intensity and were not visible. And that is why it is very important to use this global awareness of the problem in two directions. To break the silence, to give women the courage to report incidents of gender-based violence and secondly to build structures.

Consulting structures, hospitality hostels. Why are you complaining? Where are you going next? And above all to restore trust, this is more difficult, in the administration of justice. The big issue in our country, in my opinion, is on the one hand the fragmentation in the advisory, hospitality, prevention services and on the other hand there is an issue of trust in the justice delivery system” pointed out the president of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance.

Both the workers and the Mayor of Keratsiniou – Drapetsonas made special reference to explosion of casessince only in the last year 84% of the incidents they received related to incidents of domestic violence as well as the bureaucratic issues they face.

Alexis Tsipras emphasized for his part that we have a long way to go even for interventions to create a network of social protection with state responsibility, either centrally or from the municipalities, and in addition “we have a lot of work to do in the field and within the family. In other words, we must also break the causes that create domestic violence”. As he explained this has to start with the way we educate our children. “Those of us who have boys mainly but not only. If this is not broken in our daily life, in our life, in the school it will not be able to be dealt with.

“Recently there has been more courage”, underlined Alexis Tsipras and continued: “It has emerged as a problem, something that was hidden under the carpet in the families inside, in our society”.
