The Prime Minister emphasized that he considers it an absolute priority to join the network of units that can use RES to reduce their production costs
“In Tripoli we drew up this Development Plan to be able to precisely identify the need for a coherent plan at the Regional level, which brings together various financial tools and obeys a single logic”, the Prime Minister noted at the beginning of the meeting, immediately after his visit to businesses in the Industrial Area of Tripoli, with representatives of 18 businesses from all the Regional Units of Peloponnese that employ a total of 8,375 workers and have an investment plan of 850 million euros in the Peloponnese Region in the coming years.
“What you set out is completely different from what you set out three years ago, when we first got into things. Then you would be talking about taxation, about an economy that was not growing. Now we may have to deal with the problems of a growing economy. That is, problems regarding the issue of the cost of electricity, which is an imported problem that we know very well and we know that from now on, the our attention must be turned more to businesses in order to stimulate the competitiveness of the Greek and also the European economy. The question of the transition to green energy and how long it will take, is an issue that does not only concern Greece, it concerns Europe as a whole and at this level, it should certainly be addressed”, noted Mr. Mitsotakis.
The prime minister emphasized that “personally, I consider it an absolute priority to join the network of units that can use RES to reduce their production costs. This should be the country’s comparative advantage, the sooner we do it the more competitive we will be. You know the difficulties and the investments, which have to be made in the networks, but I think it is absolutely critical to be able to support our production network.
“We are a government that likes to solve real problems. Many problems are horizontal, others are very specific. However, you know that you have interlocutors who are willing to listen, understand – we believe – how the real economy works. And I think here, to say the positive side, we absolutely see what you said, that public policy tools are essentially absolutely critical to promote investments”, added Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“I want to hear from you what are the main issues and main challenges you face, because we know very well – and moreover, this is proven in practice here at BI.PE. of Tripoli – that development without productive investments cannot exist. We have already made significant progress in this area, but there is obviously a lot more to be done and I would like to have a first-hand picture from you of what are the specific challenges you face geographically but obviously also sectoral”, added Kyriakos Mitsotakis, addressed to businessmen.
The Prime Minister visited the pharmaceutical industry DEMO Ltd which is active in the development, production and promotion of pharmaceutical products. It is a purely 100% Greek company with over half a century of development in the Greek pharmaceutical industry with 84% of its branded product production being exported to 85 countries around the world. The company’s human resources number more than 1,200 employees while a new productive Campus of finished medicines and raw materials is being created in Tripoli, 8 production units with a total capacity of 270 tons of raw materials of medicines and 324 million pieces of finished medicines.
“I am very happy that the significant investment is being made here. In the pandemic we are exposed to access to raw materials for medicines. We want to implement the strategy of autonomy”, noted Mr. Mitsotakis, highlighting the emphasis the government places on dispersing productive investments throughout the country.
“The investment is possible because we have given incentives to the pharmaceutical companies to invest in our country”, he added, adding that 600 jobs will be created not only for Tripoli but for the entire Peloponnese. Today the company is implementing a multifaceted investment plan of €356 million that focuses on strengthening its position internationally and its entry into sectors with a high growth perspective such as the development and production of active raw materials and biosimilar medicines, activities that are implemented for the first time in Greece .
Afterwards, Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the company POKAS ARKADIKI RECYCLING LTD, which was founded in 2008 and is a pioneer in the regeneration of secondary plastic raw materials in the Balkans and the EU. The company’s upcoming investments concern liquid waste management, optimizing the quality of recovered plastic materials to reduce production costs and increase employment.
