The effects of the punctuality and the energy crisis in Western Macedonia and especially in the prefecture of Florina are more unbearable than other regions of the country due to the high cost of heating, pointed out the president of SYRIZA Progressive Alliance Alexis Tsipras who is visiting Florina. At the same time he said that de-lignitization is being implemented in a violent way and without a plan, thus magnifying the difficulties from the energy crisis.
“The state in recent years has created conditions for the degradation of the lives of people living in western Macedonia. Depolitization was violent and without a plan,” Mr. Tsipras said as he arrived at Florina’s town hall. Throughout the country there are conditions of an unprecedented crisis, even a humanitarian crisis, he said, and in Florina the residents are facing problems of survival, the households that cannot bear these costs are faced with impoverishment and the businesses that cannot bear the costs are faced with padlock.
“As a state, we cannot accept the fact that we will have second-class citizens. We cannot as a state accept the fact that we will have our fellow human beings be left helpless in the cold and freezing,” Mr. Tsipras emphasized and continued: “For all In Greece, the government should have long foreseen the reduction of the excise duty to the lowest levels foreseen by the European Union. Both on heating oil and on fuel. But for Florina, this and for the regions facing a long and a prolonged winter is a condition of survival. I consider it self-evident that this problem should be addressed in the next period and of course there should be a development plan, a plan that will give a boost to the local economy again, a plan that maintains social cohesion”.
He reiterated the SYRIZA-PS proposal for the necessity to have a zero deficit clause regarding de-lignitization which would ensure jobs and growth rates. And when the direct intervention of the State is not guaranteed.
“This for Western Macedonia is something that should have already been planned and since it has not been planned, we are here to listen to the citizens and commit that Western Macedonia will not be left alone, Western Macedonia will have a future and a perspective, not will become a black spot on the map.”
Accompanied by MP Peti Perkas, Mr. Tsipras met with the mayor of Florina Vassilis Giannakis and representatives of local bodies.
Outside the City Hall, residents of Florina welcomed him, and in the discussions he had with them, they all raised the problem with the very high costs they have to pay this year for heating, as well as the problems created by delignitization.
