The recruitment of 550 border guards in 2022 was announced to the Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs by the Minister of Civil Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, who, in the context of the information on Immigration, also announced that the country will claim European funds for the continuation of the wall. in Evros.
Mr. Theodorikakos referred to the measures taken to shield the Greek border and prevent illegal immigration flows and pointed out that the government is strengthening its forces and means of border protection.
“What happened in Evros in March 2020 is now known to everyone. “It was not a spontaneous attempt by illegal immigrants and refugees to enter Greek territory, but an organized operation by the Turkish authorities, which, using illegal immigrants, had the clear intention to massively violate the Greek borders,” said the Minister of Civil Protection.
Mr. Theodorikakos informed about the actions taken by the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police and provided information according to which:
– From April to the end of November, 143,472 people were barred from entering, while in the same period last year it was 98,798 people.
– In 2022, the border guards will be strengthened with 550 people, of which 250 will be stationed in Alexandroupolis and the remaining 300 in the three prefectures of Eastern Macedonia.
– The staff of the Hellenic Police will be trained in specific subjects (border control and border guarding, passport control, forgery of documents, risk analysis, citizenship identification (screening), deprivation (debriefing), protection of human and fundamental rights).
– Renovation – reconstruction of the Pre-Departure Detention Center for Foreigners (PROKEKA) of Orestiada will take place as well as
– Expansion of the automated surveillance system in the riparian section of the Greek-Turkish border in the area of Evros and interconnection of the Regional Centers for Integrated Border Management and Immigration.
– Repair-reconstruction of the existing artificial barrier (fence) in the area of Kastanea (North Evros) and construction of a new artificial barrier with a total length of approximately 26 km, in selected locations in the wider area of Fera.
– Reinforcement of logistical equipment and means (vehicles of various types, thermal cameras, heart rate detectors, CCTV systems, mobile vehicle scanning unit to detect any hidden illegal immigrants). In particular, with regard to vehicles, more than 230 new vehicles of various types have been made available in the last year, through funding from European funds (Internal Security Fund – ISF).
The Minister of Civil Protection stressed that the cooperation with Frontex and EUROPOL will be strengthened. “We are not complacent and we remain on constant alert and vigilant. We monitor daily and with the necessary attention the situation in the business field. We evaluate every information, we analyze all the data and we update, whenever necessary, our business plans “said Mr. Theodorikakos.

“We are not going to allow any violence anywhere, neither in the Attica basin, nor in the whole country.
