“It is extremely important to be able to reach an agreement at the next council of energy ministers,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed after the EUMED-9 summit on the energy crisis
Greece can contribute in order to help Europe become more quickly dependent on Russian natural gas. Greece will continue to be a provider of energy security with natural gas regasification investments, stressed Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis after the EUMED-9 summit.
Mr. Mitsotakis characterized the remark of the president of the Republic of Cyprus as important Nikos Anastasiadis for the possibilities provided by the Eastern Mediterranean basin, underlining that Greece is advancing rapidly in new hydrocarbon research southeast of Crete and the Peloponnese.
“It is extremely important to be able to reach an agreement at the next council of energy ministers,” he stressed regarding the energy crisis. “To finally be able to compress the prices of natural gas”, emphasized the prime minister, repeating his proposals, with an emphasis on the definition of a ceiling.
Referring to the issue of economic governance, Mr. Mitsotakis said that its proposals European Commission is in the right direction. “As Europe we have absorbed the lessons we learned from the debt crisis and that it is unproductive to set strict economic targets. Greater flexibility can simultaneously go hand in hand with sound and prudent fiscal management, which must be accompanied by the necessary reforms. This is the path that Greece has set out and it will stick to it,” said the prime minister.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis agreed with Emmanuel Macron that we should highlight the unique biodiversity of the Mediterranean by developing joint actions. The Mediterranean, he said, is at the center of climate change and in the summer we had big fires in France and Portugal, while cooperation in civil protection is important and the Rescue EU tool must be strengthened.
“Finally, I want to thank, as a European and as a Greek prime minister, my friend, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, who is ending a ten-year career in the leadership of the Republic of Cyprus, and all of you for standing by the just people of Cyprus, supporting the Republic of Cyprus against the unjust and illegal invasion that took place 48 years ago,” the prime minister then said and added: “The solution to the Cyprus problem can only be fair and sustainable if it is based on the decisions of the UN Security Council and any thought of a two-state solution is rejected.”
