“A budget that seals a policy of injustices and political impasses and prescribes a worsening of the economic situation”, characterized the new state budget of 2023, the general rapporteur of SYRIZA, Efi Ahtsioglou during his debate in the Plenary of the Parliament, stating that her party is voting against him.
“Normally, after the wiretapping scandal came to light, this government should have already resigned if it had any sense of decency. But I’m afraid he hasn’t. And this was fully confirmed after what followed, from the sad presence of the Prime Minister on Thursday in the Parliament, who to the direct question if he knew that the head of GEETHA was being watched and Mr. Hatzidakis did not answer but ran away in a disorderly manner”, said the lady Ahtsioglou.
Afterwards, he spoke of “a deep crisis of democracy that Greek society is experiencing, to which is also added a real deep economic crisis”.

At the same time, he accused the government of legalizing profiteering and emphasized that it implements a policy to enhance the profitability of business groups.
“In the real economy, a marginal condition prevails and this is confirmed by a series of official data: Greece is first in the price of gasoline, first in the wholesale price of electricity, while for electricity, throughout the first half of 2022, Greeks pay the most to energy companies in Europe. Even in the tough EU governments the situation is better. Greece is the third most expensive country in terms of purchasing power in Europe and in the first positions of energy inflation”, underlined the general rapporteur of SYRIZA and added: “No matter how many half-truths you say, you cannot change the social reality. Because your policy is a policy of legalizing the filthy lucre of business groups, and the impoverishment of society.”
“It is a budget that prescribes a worsening of the economic situation but fortunately it will have a short life for the government that proposes it, as soon the Greek people will give a mandate to a progressive government to implement a social and fair program”, pointed out Mrs. Ahtsioglou.
“The characteristic of this government is not the ideological reference of its policy. This government’s own political stigma is that it rules with contempt. With contempt for citizens and their needs, with contempt for democratic institutions. But the ruling regimes, you know, don’t last long. And Greek citizens are already calling for a progressive government and they will cancel this budget in practice,” concluded Mrs. Ahtsioglou.
Finally, Mrs. Ahtsioglou referred to the death of 16-year-old Kostas Fragoulis, who, as she said, “lost his life from a bullet for a debt of just 20 euros”, noting that the feeling of injustice has grown and has affected the citizens.
