The pre-election climate of the last few days, interspersed with scandals but also the current affairs rich in revelations, will push the political confrontation of the political leaders to the heights, during the budget vote in the Parliament, on Saturday.

Heading into the final fortnight before the 2023 election year, within which – sooner or later – the polls will be set up, the parties have already taken up battle positions and the warm-up for the pre-election sprint has begun. A foretaste of what will follow in the coming months was given very revealingly by Brussels, where Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras found themselves as “two strangers in the same city”, and were opposed from a distance.

“Milon of discord”, two women of the European Parliament who are at the forefront of current affairs, Eva Kailis and Maria Spyrakiseach for different reasons, but “useful” to party staffs looking for causes and occasions for political confrontation.

The investigated involvement of Eva Kaili in QatarGateand his effort Nikos Androulakis to present the MEP of his party as a Trojan horse of the ND, but also the corresponding remarks by Alexis Tsipras from Brussels that Eva Kaili was a “Prussian supporter of the Mitsotakis government”, confirmed according to government sources the assessment of the ND that there is ” convergence” of opinions between Harilaos Trikoupis and Koumoundouros.

He himself Kyriakos Mitsotakis after all, speaking to a party audience in the Belgian capital and on the occasion of Alexis Tsipras’s statement on the export of corruption from Greece, on the one hand he attacked the president of SYRIZA, arguing that “a former prime minister does not offer services to his country when he defames it outside of Greece” and on the other hand against Nikos Androulakis, characterizing him as a “follower of Mr. Tsipras”.

“The identification is obvious,” commented the government representative, stressing that “the hilariously tragic arguments of Androulaki and Tsipras are completely identical.”

The identification of views between Androulakis and Tsipras on the controversial issue and the role of Eva Kaili is also read in another way in Piraeus, seeing post-election, a possible “flirt” between PASOK and SYRIZA which can go as far as co-government.

Chance that Harilaou Trikoupi is still “exorcizing” excluding any connection with the party of Alexis Tsipras. “Greek citizens deserve not to live again the nightmare of the government of Mr. Tsipras – Kammenou and they are entitled to a better future from the unchecked power of Mr. Mitsotakis,” said a PASOK-KINAL announcement.

The news about ND MEP Maria Spyrakis, for whom the European Attorney General requested the lifting of her immunity due to “suspected fraud damaging to the EU budget”, in relation to the parliamentary allowances and assistants’ fees.

“We assume that Mr. Mitsotakis will not pretend that he does not know Ms. Spyrakis, like Ms. Kaili, and will dismiss her from the ND” commented SYRIZA in a statement, excluding the investigations of the Belgian authorities “contrary to the feeling injustice and the permanent cover-up in Greece of Mr. Mitsotakis” as he mentioned and concluded “People are only consistent in corruption and dragging the country inside and outside its borders”.

An announcement that provoked the response of the ND accusing SYRIZA of trying to involve disparate things to create impressions. “The case of Ms. Spyrakis has nothing to do with Qatargate. Ms. Spyrakis herself has stated that she accepts the request to lift her immunity, in order to make it clear that it is an administrative dispute regarding an allowance of her former partner and that she herself has no financial dispute with the European Parliament” they said in the announcement, underlining “the oppositional despair of SYRIZA”.

However, government sources after the explanations given by Mrs. Spyraki and her interview on a television channel, referred to the relevant statements, stressing that her explanations are considered sufficient.

What is certain, however, is that the pre-election climate of the last few days, interspersed with scandals as well as the current affairs rich in revelations, will push the political confrontation between the political leaders to the heights, during the voting of the budget in the Parliament, on Saturday.
