The former Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship in the European Union, Dimitris Avramopoulos, explains his participation in the organization.
“My participation in the Fight Impunity organization was completely non-executive or managerial from the beginning. The committee I participated in, among others together with personalities such as F. Mogherini, the French ex-MP Bernard Cazeneuve and Senator Emma Bonino, was honorable. For my participation and the compensation that would accompany it, I asked for the approval of the European Commission, which was given to me in writing by President Von der Leyen” emphasizes the former Commissioner for Migration, Internal Affairs and Citizenship in the European Union, Dimitris Avramopoulos, in his statement in APE-MPE, regarding a publication of the Italian newspaper la Stampa.
A corresponding positive opinion on my participation in the Honorary Committee of the Organization was given by the Independent Ethical Committee of the European Commission on December 10, 2020.
The compensation was for one yearfrom February 2021 to February 2022, with the amount of 5000 euros per month, which was also declared was taxed in Greece, according to Greek law (final amount: €3750). After one year, in February 2022, because the activity of the Organization had waned, I requested and the compensation was stopped. From by March onwards, my membership was effectively over“, continues Mr. Avramopoulos.
And his statement concludes: “As soon as I was informed of what happened recently in Brussels, I immediately and irrevocably tendered my resignation and I asked that my name be removed from the website, along with the other personalities who participated in the committee.”
