Elderly – Petri Foundation” in Stylida. The delegation included, among others, Kostas Basdekis, member of the K.E. of the KKE, Tasos Chronas, regional councilor with the People’s Coalition and Giorgos Delihas, municipal councilor of Lamia with the People’s Coalition.
D. Koutsoumbas, arriving at the “Stegi” site, met with the metropolitan of Fthiotida, Simeon.
During their meeting, the metropolitan presented Dimitris Koutsoubas with a frame depicting the workers of LARCO. The metropolitan thanked the c.g. of K.E. of the KKE for the fight that the KKE gives for the workers of LARCO. D. Koutsoubas, accepting the gift, made the following statement: “Thank you very much. It is the best gift I could have because the children of LARCO, their families have been fighting a great fight, a really heroic fight for many years and we hope with our help, yours, all of us to win it” .
The c.g. of K.E. of the KKE before his tour of the site thanked for the welcome, saying that “our soul, our heart, our mind these days is close to our fellow human beings who are suffering, especially the elderly here in the Elderly Home of the Diocese of Fthiotida, which is a very important place because it houses human souls, our fathers , our grandparents, and they need us, especially these days when the world is celebrating, it’s Christmas and the new year is coming in a few days».
D. Koutsoubas also noted that “it is very important because this people has suffered a lot, continues to suffer. The whole world is having a very difficult time in Europe, all over the world and in our country with many problems, but we are looking at the present and the future with competitive optimism. Everything is judged, we believe, by the struggles of all of us, by the effort we all make, by solidarity, by collective action, by visions and ideals. The things that the new man must have, that all humanity must have in order for better days to dawn for us, for all of us, for the peoples, for our children, for the generations to come.”
Immediately after completing his visit to the “Stegi” premises, D. Koutsoubas made the following statement:
“I would like to wish you a very happy birthday and a happy new year. The problems facing humanity, Europe, our country, our people, are huge, but we have competitive optimism, the hope for tomorrow. That’s what we’re fighting for. We are actually fighting for our people to become the protagonists of the developments, for the people themselves, the workers and their real modern needs to come to the fore, because we cannot expect “messiahs” from some politicians, there are no such in politics system. On the contrary, we encounter brutality, violence, repression, exploitation of man by man. We must oppose all of this collectively, as collectives, as a labor popular movement, as a people. The KKE stands in front of them, as our slogan says “only the people can save the people”, on the road of overthrow, of real changes with an even stronger KKE everywhere, in all battles”.
Also, regarding the “Old People’s Home – Petri Foundation”, D. Koutsoumbas stated: “We found ourselves in a very welcoming place, which is the responsibility of the Diocese of Fthiotida, the venerable Metropolitan Simeon. We saw really warm, welcoming places, people working, nurses in their uniforms who with self-sacrifice, with a real interest in the elderly fight the battle of solidarity, companionship, service every day. And of course we are on their side.”
“Amid everything else, they prepared a huge surprise for me. We met here a guest, an elderly woman, who was imprisoned in Auschwitz. A woman, truly a heroine of the Resistance, of the struggle of the Greek people, who of course later had difficulty in those stone years even finding a job because she was characterized as a fighter of the Resistance, as a communist. They are the well-known issues that a people went through who gave everything to rid our country of the conqueror, of fascism, so that better days would dawn for the people and the country” he added and concluded his statement: “I would like to thank for the reception and the hon. I feel great emotion, great honor and joy to be here. After all, Fthiotida is my birthplace, my hometown, I was born in Lamia. And in this respect the joy and excitement are double and triple, especially in these days of Christmas and the coming New Year».
