The prime minister may not have finally chosen the mountain – Metsovo – to make his decisions regarding the appeal to the polls, as he had announced to journalists after the 2023 budget was passed, but the change of plans and destination in Chania does not mean that these decisions have not been taken or do not summarize…
What is certain is that despite the poor political current affairs, during the days of Christmas, the pre-election climate is evidentthe pre-election period has started energetically, albeit informally, throughout Greece, especially these days when MPs and government officials visited their constituencies and in this context, the discussions and information about the dates of the upcoming elections.
In this climate and with the exclusive privilege the decision to hold the elections that the respective prime minister always receives it, so far two are being discussed as the most important dates, with the second receiving more and more “points”.
For the first electoral contest, therefore, with the simple proportional one, according to ND party officials and government officials, two dates are “in play”, April 2nd and April 9th, with April 9th, which is the Palm Sunday and it would also make it easier for voters – those who can – to combine voting with prolonged Easter holidays in their constituencies.
The argument weighing on the possibility of holding the first elections in April is the fact that elections at this time cannot be considered premature, so the prime minister remains consistent with his commitments and repeated assurances that the government will exhaust its constitutional service.
At the same time, this schedule “helps” the image of the government’s social and economic policy as in the meantime the new economic measures with a positive impact, such as the increase in pensions, and the abolition of the solidarity levy and the payment of the market pass, will have begun to be implemented .
Based on this possibility of elections in early April, the next election – given the procedures that will follow, with the investigative orders, the opening and the re-closing of the Parliament – the second ballots are expected to be set up within May.
In any case, the government wants to prevent two events: the National Examinations, which are scheduled for the beginning of June, as the government’s goal is for them to be held smoothly and in a calm atmosphere for the children and their parents.
The second thing that the government wants to avoid is the summer, so that the tourist season remains unaffected by pre-election and election procedures.
