The State Department gave a response to the provocative statements of Touko’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, who threatens our country with war even for the expansion of territorial waters in Crete. As reported by the correspondent of SKAI in the USA, Christodoulos Athanasatos, the State Department expresses its sadness at the escalation of provocative statements and asks the two countries to cooperate to maintain peace and security in the region.

“At a time when unity is most needed among our Allies, the United States regrets the escalation of provocative statements. We urge all our Allies to avoid threats and provocative rhetoric that will only increase tension and help no one.

We continue to encourage our NATO Allies, Greece and Turkey, to work together to maintain peace and security in the region and to resolve disputes diplomatically. Greece and Turkey are both strong partners and key NATO allies of the United States,” he said.

In his statements, the Turkish Foreign Minister referred to reports in the Greek press that state that the Greek territorial waters will be extended to 12 miles around Crete. As he said his country will not allow the extension of territorial waters even one mile and warned Greece not to get into adventures because “the end will be very bad”.
