Letter of thanks from Pope Francis to Nikos Dendias

by

Pope Francis, after the completion of his visit to Greece, in a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, thanked him for his presence both during his arrival and during his departure to Greece, which, as he points out, took place on the day of his name day, Agios Nikolaos.

In his letter, the Pope also expressed his gratitude for, as he states, the “insightful reflection” of the Foreign Minister during the discussion they had.

He added that the intervention of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is a bridge element in the promotion of dialogue for the benefit of humanity.

It is noted in this regard that, before the Pope’s visit to Greece, the Foreign Minister had met with Prime Minister Cardinal Parolin and had repeatedly talked with the Vatican Foreign Minister Archbishop Gallagher.

During the above contacts, the prospects of cooperation between Greece and the Vatican, as well as other Orthodox and Catholic states for the consolidation of peace and security in the Western Balkans and the Middle East were discussed at length.
